With all the head injury backlash the league is up against letting him raise awareness for mental health sounds like a good look to me. But I also don't run the NFL. What do I know.

The same league that wouldn't let Peyton Manning wear black shoes to honor Johnny Unitas.

I don't see why the NFL doesn't let players apply for these kind of things. That way they can view them all on a case by case basis.

Nobody's saying "any" cause. I could understand the NFL not wanting people wearing rainbow shoes in support of gay marriage, for example, because that issue's controversial as hell.

But medical issues? Mental health, autism, prostate cancer, etc? You should be able to do that.

I brought this up on Twitter, but personally I would let players wear any medical cause color all year, for a hefty monthly donation to a charity related to that cause.

Why not? It's just shoes, and you could raise an absolutely insane amount of money for these charities by doing it.

Plus even more off selling the game worn merchandise for charity like they do with the Breast Cancer Awareness stuff now.

I know fans generally get pink fatigue after a single weekend of this, but the cause would be so damn good that I could put up with green and pink and baby blue wristbands and shoes all season in the name of making so much money for research and charity.

It's just like any other profession with a uniform code that wouldn't let you wear what you want to show support of something that isn't officially supported.
Players are not employees of the NFL though. They are employed by individual teams.

This is true, and the courts have stated as much. The teams, however, are members of the NFL and therefore their employees have to observe NFL rules.

Not sure about that, I don't remember specific scenarios at all so I could be wrong but for some reason I think there has been times when teams wanted to honor someone or something (individually) but were either told no, or were given a hard time by the NFL for it.

                        You know whats really dumb?

The NFL is not allowing any throwback helmets at all this year. A couple weeks ago the Bucs wanted to don the old orange and whites but the league put the kibosh on wearing a different helmet. I have no idea why but the NFL really is a joke at times with their control over everything.

Goodell wants to possibly force a team on Hard Knocks? Next year 3 games in London? Just makes me shake my head.

What I really want to know when things like this happen is are the owners all in lock-and-step or is their dissent, and if so, on what grounds.

The owners have to consent to these rules is someway, right?

Goodell isnt just coming up with all this himself, they are sometimes proposed by owners, and most all of these type of changes happen from the owners and the competition comittee. The reason there's a handful of news stories to discuss is because of the owners meetings this week.

The NFL held its annual Fall Owners Meeting in Washington D.C. on Tuesday and, as usual, there's not a shortage of topics to discuss from it...

I don't like the Ban on Throwback helmets, really limits a team's creativity in uniform choice.. and takes away some of the better uniform combos we used to see.

For instance I really liked the Alternate Pittsburgh Steeler unis with the Yellow helmets and white pants looked really sleek, or the throwback Atlanta Falcons look with the Red helmets and Black jerseys, also the New England Patriot throwbacks were cool, and different.

Why can't teams equipment teams just custom fit 2 sets of helmets for each player in the beginning of the year? For the teams that have throwbacks that like going to those, one Standard helmet, and another throwback? Because this whole thing is about concussions right?

It's because they believe the pads mold to the player's head and they think it's a risk if they're using new pads associated with throwback or alternate helmets.
