Its hard for me to buy the bad football rhetoric when it comes to Thursday games when there is bad football on Sundays and Mondays as well.

The NFL: "In our attempt to make our game safer, we will penalize and fine every hit that is mildly violent, prevent players from wearing another helmet, and try to get them to play on short rest even more often."

The NFL has a really bad case of sending crossed signals. On top of this, are the owners really that willing to gamble this much with their wildly successful product?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if a specific business strategy isn't working, does it really make sense to double down? I get you can't just keep what you have, but trying to force a failed idea doesn't sound like good business.

If the NFL wants more nationally aired games, maybe they can try to put them in time slots proven to work, like, oh, I don't know Sunday from 1:00 PM EST - 8:00 PM EST or Monday at 8:00 PM EST. Hell, try 6:00PM EST for a Monday if you feel really edgy.

They can pretty much do whatever they want.

They have no competition. Companies will still buy ad space which is all the NFL really cares about.

Sucks, but what the fans want isn't necessarily what the NFL wants.

Oh, I'm not saying there isn't bad football on Sundays/Mondays. It's just that on short rest and little preparation the Thursday games turn out to be pretty terrible in general.

My bias might come into play there expecting the games to be terrible so I can point out "HAH THEY ARE BAD TROLOLOLOLOLOL." I just dislike NFL football on Thursdays in general, save for Thanksgiving.

With that possible bias being taken into account... it seems like the games on Thursday are always sloppier and, as a fan, I am just not in the right mindset to watch an NFL game on Thursday - plus we normally have other plans on Thursdays so we gotta split time between what we're doing (Farmers Market/Dinner) and the game because now she's way more interested in football.

                  Re: NFL Off Topic

The NFL reportedly is disappointed that the present approach, which expanded last year to cover most Thursdays, hasn’t generated more interest. In addition to additional Thursday night games, some of the games currently televised by NFL Network could be sold to other networks.
People enjoy other things than football. I mean Bears/Giants game may have been one of the better games so far this season and I didn't watch it because well life. Can't really tell the wife I am going to watch football Thursday Night, Saturday (afternoon, evening), (all day) Sunday, and Monday Night. Just doesn't work for me.

Do people even want more Thursday games? I tell you the NFL is in for a reckoning at some point. I don't know what it'll take but at some point they're gonna do something so stupid in excess that people are just going to turn their backs on the league.

The NFL is disappointed in the TNF reception so adding more is their solution? Ok.

I think some of you are reading that as fans aren't receiving it well, they're talking about interest in buying the package of games. Fans are tuning in as ratings are up 27-28% over 2012, TNF is having a record year for viewership.

Will be interesting if in a year or two these are only available on Youtube or something.

Per report from @WSJ, potential buyer of new package could be an online provider such as Netflix or Google. I cant imagine adding more Thursday games.. I mean what are we gonna have more double headers that dont end until 2:00am?? Its bad enough the NFL has the opening MNF double header but to pull that on Thursdays is crazy. I could see more Saturday games getting a better reception. Hell, I liked having 2 games on Thanksgiving, now were at what 4?

I'm interested to see what this does for Greg Jennings. Cassell seemed more competent at least when it comes to trying to get him involved, but he doesn't have the arm to really do much damage with him.

Well, at the very least he should be able to get the ball to Jennings vertically more so than the others. I just wonder how much of the playbook he has 15%-25%. Either way they are going to really need to execute their gameplan really well.
