The sad thing is, it isn't viewed as "cool" to go calling a cab after a night of drinking etc etc.

I have a feeling a lot of the hangers ons are all "hey man don't be some old fart. You're ok enough to drive c'mon there's no one on the road" etc etc.

And another one now... Reportedly Chiefs backup CB Donald Washington arrested, DWI but for marijuana, not alcohol.

Didn't we go a decent amount of time with an NFL arrest and now within the last two weeks it's blown up bigtime?

Maybe is everyone last weeks hanging out at home with friends before camp starts. Who know either was inexcusable.

I think this is a part of it. They know or the next 5+ months they will be under a microscope so why not try to get in that one last hurrah. Too bad, they don't think about something as simple as a DD. Maybe I should start a service.....

Definitely. I read an article a few weeks back about how NFL execs dread July for that very reason.

"I understand these are just words and it will be my future actions that ultimately will speak for me." -Aaron Berry, last month after an arrest.
                  Aaron Berry Arrested Again

It needs to be Thursday now. We also need to cut him immediately. None of this "extremely disappointed" bull****. Saints could have put a high school receiver out there last year and he still would have gotten burnt anyway. Start getting rid of the dumb****s on this team now. Only ****ing way they will learn. Because going by this idiot's statement from last month, he ain't worth a damn thing anyway.

How thick are these guys? I mean, you were undrafted, you landed with a team that has giving you the chance and now you are expected to be the starter. And then you get arrested twice. Do guys like Berry have any logic?

If I was undrafted I'd be doing everything to make sure I stay with the team, not get cut from it.

It's times like these were guys like KVB almost need to become a force within that locker room, sit down with some of these guys, and just tell them straight "You are a huge disappointment to everyone".

                      This is so frustrating....

Ryan Clady needs to be drug tested after seeing how much money he wants compared to what he's been offered. Clady has been getting worse every season but wants over $90 million in a contract.

                          Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

Random question/thought - was watching some old vids of Vince McMahon talking about the XFL and how the NFL was becoming too soft and ticket prices being too high for the fans, both of which are issues still today. I know the NFL is a colossus, but does anyone think that if a good alternative came that didn't try to compete with the NFL, but instead tried to do things differently and maybe even acted as an official minor league for the NFL, would it be able to work?

I know the UFL and AFL both exist and are floundering somewhat, but I think during the summer you could still have a league that was similar to the USFL but not trying to compete w/ the NFL, maybe offered a bit different rules on the field, and perhaps even had the NFL's blessing somewhat as a feeder system similar to the NBA-DL and NBA Summer League, come along and be successful.

You've got this 1-2 month period between mini-camps and training camps where there's practically nothing on the sporting landscape outside of MLB. If done right, it could work and give rookies a chance to get on the field sooner and playing, even if it's against lower level competition.

I guess I'm asking if there was an NFL Developmental League for rookies and practice squad players, could it work? Or if there was an independent league that had the NFL's blessing somewhat as a league for FAs and undrafted rookies still looking for a job to showcase themselves, could it work?

I'm not sure it can work to be honest with you. Actually the USFL was working marginally but then Donald Trump who owned the NY/NJ team bullied the other owners into going with a fall schedule. If he hadn't done that the USFL could probably have lasted at least a few more years as a viable summer alternative.

There was an idea floated about a couple or so years ago about a league starting up where the teams would be near/at campuses of major Division 1 schools and the players from the teams would come from those schools so there'd be a community aspect to it. I think that idea could work to some degree.

Honestly, the NFL is too big a behemoth for any league to work and be in the black. the WLAF/NFL Europe was an NFL funded league and the scope of that league was such that they lost money every single year with the only European market making money was the German team.

I think the way it is today with the CFL, AFL and possibly UFL acting as unofficial feeders to the NFL is the best case scenario. No one is going to make money with a summer league in the US unless they do it on a small scale and proclaim themselves as minor league and even then that'd be a long road to hoe.

Maybe extend the practice squad roster size and have them play a short season? Provides an environment for teams to evaluate players in an actual game compared to them being the practice fodder.
