    NFL Off Topic

I assume F bombs and S drops will be the ones that are targeted. Crap, damn, hell won't ... Maybe ***.

Okay I'm just testing the filter now.

But I agree with you PPM, head in the right place, but too hard to officiate in an already tough to officiate sport.

In the lockerrom and off camera they can say whatever they want.
Who cares what they say on the field? This isn't the NHL or the NBA where the fans are sitting right next to the action, no one can hear anything the players say on the field unless they're mic'd up, which means the network is going to censor it anyways or the mics near the field pick up something, which doesn't happen very often.

Great sentiment and I agree 100% with it. I don't like that one of the most damaging words of the 20th (and a little earlier) century has become "okay". It's one of those things that really infuriates me and i'm not even a black person! I just think the word is reprehensible no matter what context it's spoken in.

Problem is, this is going to be hell to legislate.

Actually, the game is mic'd up so well these days that it sometimes slips through the cracks. I remember a coach (can't remember exactly who now) who was yelling on the sidelines and the F word came through clear as day. There have been other times when there's a scuffle before a penalty is called where the mic is live and you can hear players (it doesn't happen as much as it did in the '90s though) and if things get too heated you're going to hear some language filter out into the living rooms of America.

It's better to be safe than sorry though actually I think a little salty language is ok, after all this is a pretty brutal sport but we can't have guys throwing the N word out there.

Honestly, I think this will fare a lot better in the context of locker rooms and team facilities but as I said before it's going to be incredibly hard to legislate on the field because penalties will completely disrupt the flow until players are conditioned to stop using that language.

Nope, don't condone that at all. I think that kind of blanket coverage regarding those things are coming down the road.

I could care less what people say to each other on the field or off it for that matter, they are just words.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Are the coaches immune as well? So are referees fair game? What about the fans? Or is it just between player/player?

I'm sure if coaches start being super abusive they'll be penalized. There have been times when i've seen coaches be very abusive towards the officials. They now have something to combat that IMO.

I'm sure the refs aren't going to be hurling epithets at each other and um, why would fans be a part of this? They're not in the game though i've seen fans carried out of ballparks for being disorderly so there's already a mechanism in place there.

Fan to Player interaction is BY FAR the worse. That type of crap annoys me more than anything regarding this, but that's part of the whole "self entitlement" that fans have when it comes to Sports.

But I'm with bighoff in that I could care less what's being said on the field because especially if it's within the rules which so far it is and hopefully it doesn't change. I want my team to win most importantly. Don't give a crap if they're choir boys or not...just get the W.

You'd be okay with having Rae Carruth, Aaron Hernandez, Darren Sharper on your team as long as they're winning?

I think there needs to be a code of conduct for sportsmanship. So far I guess I'm in the minority on OS as nobody else has chimed in or they said they don't care what players say.

Lets not turn it political. I know this is the hot topic in the NFL and will remain so until probably opening day when Sam gets on the field. But try to leave Politics out of it.

I won't delete because it relevant to the topic, but if it becomes and issue Myself or one of the other mods will delete it

Sportsmanship I agree with in some way, in the sense you don't need to be standing over someone flexing when you hit them.

Words don't matter to me, though, it's a bunch of grown adults playing a game. I'm not going to act like I don't say stuff people don't find offensive on a daily basis. Could not care less about what's said on the field.

Thanks. Personally, I think it's dumb. Funny how nobody cared to even consider banning gay athletes until there was one staring them in the face, ready to take the NFL by storm.

I hope Sam gets drafted, and has a Hall of Fame career. I know that's a long shot, but everyone is acting like now that he's open about it, his play on the field is going to diminish. Dude still won SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
