Didn't he catch a suspension last season for either PED's or the same drug charge?

He's just an idiot. How can you fail a test knowing that you have a target on your back? I will never understand.

Of course not. But if you're dumb enough to get caught not once but twice for the same damn thing, all while getting payed millions of dollars to do what most people would kill to do, then maybe you don't deserve the luxury.

That's what I don't get about the whole "it's just weed" defense of these guys. They know it's against the rules, know they risk losing everything by doing it, yet still do, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for them? It's ridiculous. I'm not going to apologize for another man's stupidity.

Even though I think it should be decriminalized, it's still against the league rules and if you're dumb enough to do it you deserve ample punishment.

Being reported he not only failed a test but missed others, hence the jump to a year instead of 8 games. This is also probably his 3rd+ failed/missed test.

Josh Gordon busted for speeding had weed in car....


Josh Gordon was issued a speeding ticket in Strongsville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend, while his passenger was cited for marijuana possession.
The speeding ticket is obviously a non-story, but it shows a remarkable lack of common sense and self awareness for a player in Gordon's situation — appealing a year-long suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy — to get caught with someone with marijuana. The easy inference, of course, is that the weed didn't just belong to Gordon's friend. The situation will undoubtedly complicate Gordon's appeal of his ban, and make it far more likely the 16-game punishment is upheld. Gordon is risking a lifetime ban with his reckless behavior. It's a depressing waste of talent for a 23-year-old wideout who just won the league's receiving title.

Yeahhhh, his boy took the fall for him. Good man, but maybe ole Josh needs to sit out, WITHOUT PAY, to realize the extremely rare opportunity he has.

Plus, you don't drive anything but perfect when you're driving with something you shouldn't. They should start suspending people for being idiots. That can't be appealed, son!

Lifetime bans for weed are ridiculous. No one is asking you to feel sorry for them. But lets keep things in perspective.

I'm not just talking about the weed, he also admitted beating his girlfriend and broke her collar bone. He hasn't got the suspension for that. So that's probably another year he'll be suspended.

one thing I don't get is daryl Washington getting a yr ban for his 4th offense for smoking weed... last yr he tested positive got a 4 game suspended.... this is only gordons 3rd time so why aren't they just giving Gordon 4 games??? why a yr ban?


and like somebody else meantioned Washington strangled his gf/wife she fell broke her collarbone.... to me his 4th time and for doing that he needs to be banned....but why treat players different since Gordon only tested positive for weed.


I say it should be 4 games not a yr ban since like I meantioned washingtons on his 4th offense for same thing.

The "its only weed" argument is stupidly played out. It's like some people I see on Facebook or randomly over hear talking about them failing their drug test for a job then bitching it's "only weed". While I agree that the stigma to using it is rediculous (won't get into it to much due to TOS), however knowing that your in a situation where you shouldn't use it but do it anyway is even more rediculous.

He must've done something to mitigate a prior failure. In the NFL your first offense is a fine and you are put into the drug program (kept away from public knowledge) . Your second offense is a four game suspension. Your third offense is a minimum year long suspension.

When you're talking about lifetime bans, "its only weed" is a legitimate response imo. If you want to punish guys for breaking the rule go for it. But lifetime bans just arent called for over some weed. Especially when the league is mobilizing new positive test reform over the issue.
