Re: NFL Off Topic
So apparently at some point the New York Times invented a bot that uses statistical analysis to analyze decisions on 4th down in real time and decide whether the coach was right in their decision or wrong.
Spoiler Alert: Most coaches are dinosaurs, the Bot is not. So there's a lot of disagreement. Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.

Re: NFL Off Topic
It's weird to me that, while coaches are overwhelmingly more conservative than the 4thDownBot pretty much everywhere, 4th & 10 at around the opponents 35 is prime "go for it" decision time for both.
Just a weird down and distance to be matched up on.

Re: NFL Off Topic
I remember seeing a thing on ESPN about a high school coach who never punts it. Goes for it every single time, regardless of where he is on the field.
His rationale: If you're 4th and 1 on your own 1 yard line, you have about a 50% chance of converting.
If you punt, the other team is going to get the ball at probably about midfield, they have roughly a 70% chance of scoring from that field position. If they get it at the 1, they have about a 93% chance. There's not that much of a difference in their odds of scoring. And you have a coin flip to keep the ball in your possession.
Don't remember the exact numbers but they were in that ballpark.Last edited by gopher_guy; 09-07-2014, 11:52 PM.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: NFL Off Topic
I cant believe they had this woman apologizing at a press conference for that. The video is outrageous. Goodell couldn't possibly have seen that video and thought 2 games was gonna fly.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
That Ray Rice video was even worse than I expected it to be. I figured for only a two game suspension and no jail sentence there must have been some mitigating factor where Rice was defending himself from an attack by his psycho fiance or something. This was all Rice. It looks like he spit in her face in the hallway, took a swipe at her on the elevator and then cold cocked her when she came after him. Disgusting.
Good thing he didn't light up a joint in the elevator though or the league would have really brought the hammer down. Goodell should be fired.Last edited by Seahawk76; 09-08-2014, 08:10 AM.Comment

If he gets cheered in his first game back in Baltimore, I swear...
