NFL Off Topic
He's 31 or will be sometime this month. He's been starter only 7 years or so, maybe less?
He did take a lot of hits though over his career.
As a 49ers fan, I still don't understand how Alex Smith and Rodgers were considered comparable. However, people say Rodgers was skinny and didn't have quite the arm strength coming out.
How typical is it for QBs to develop elite arm talent after coming to the NFL? If it's true that Rodgers' arm wasn't special (though his accuracy was terrific in college, made me think of Peyton who was at his peak around that time in Indy) in 2005, did he develop his arm strength by 2008, his first full year as starter?
Only other QB whose arm proved to be better than when drafted is Brady. Or at least I can't think of many others. Montana was said to throw harder several years into his career, though recently, James Lofton was saying Montana threw soft, easy to catch balls at the Pro Bowls.
There were some questions about PED use by Brady. Maybe there should be some against Rodgers, if there's as much improvement in physical attributes since coming into the league, as some claim. However, Rodgers played at an elite level, including playing well against USC when they were dominant, so he had to have some physical tools.
I tend to think the 49ers just blew the choice, that the physical talent difference should have been apparent back then as it is now.
Then again, 20 other teams missed too.
I recall the knock on Rodgers was that he was a Jeff Tedford robot QB. Remember him holding the ball up by his ear? That was an issue.
It was a weird QB draft year, kind of similar to this past year. It also doesn't help that Alex Smith had a new coordinator or coach every year for his first liken 6-7 seasons. His growth was probably stunted and now he's just the posterboy for a game manager.
Sitting in GB was probably the best thing to ever happen to Rodgers. Maybe not for the 3 years he ended up sitting for, but holding off and correcting any mechanical issues probably helped.
It's not fair to compare Rodgers and Smith even with all the obvious parallels because Rodgers has been so transcendently good. Like Peyton Manning stratosphere good. Even Drew Brees and Tom Brady, for the greatness they have shown and production they've put up, don't compare to Manning and now Rodgers. It goes to show the situation you get drafted in to can make a huge difference too.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Clowney isn't a bust but it is very concerning that a lot of the things people were scared of about him seem to be playing out.
Wish we had him at full speed. Maybe he could have made a difference in the games we lost that we shouldn't have lost.Comment

A couple of Bears fans were stabbed by other Bears fans last night when they were overheard saying "the Packers are awesome this year. Why couldn't I have been born a Packers fan?"
They're both okay.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment
