    Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

I just posted this in the Jaguars thread, but hell, it works here too:

    Shahid Khan about MJD:

"Train is leaving the station," said Khan. "Run, get on it."

    MJD's rebuttal:

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is open to being traded, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Your best source for quality Jacksonville Jaguars news, rumors, analysis, stats and scores from the fan perspective.

I have this feeling in my gut that the writing is now on the wall that MJD is going to suit up in a jersey this year that isn't teal. It's remarkable how likeable the guy was compared to how much of a diva he's revealed himself to be. Don't get me wrong, without him last year we probably lose one or two more games, but it's not like he led us to the playoffs or anything. His contract is comparable to Forte's and Rice's salary, MJD is just pissed it was front-loaded.

Also, I'm worried that if he does report, we're going to have a Chris Johnson Titans beginning of the season where it just messes up the offense. Rashad Jennings has been running very well in preseason, and he's shown that he can carry the load. MJD won't be in game shape if he reports, so he shouldn't be starting yet.

EDIT: That being said, AlfieBCC just made a good point:

Exactly what @JeffDarlington said. Trading him is just as much caving as paying him.

Idk personally I say you just pay the man, he's the only reason Jacksonville has been what little relevant they've been over the past few years

How can you call him a diva? Who else have the Jags had on offense besides him? Hell if I'm going to have average running room and consistently lose for you, the least you can do is pay me.

His contract he signed a few years ago is consistent with the paychecks that Forte and Rice got this year. He has two years on his contract. He needs to shut up and get back on the field before whatever leverage he had is obliterated by Rashad Jennings racking up yards on NFL first-string defenses.

I wouldn't pay him. If they weren't making the playoffs with him then who the hell cares. Obviously he's not the reason they didn't make it but HBs are easily replaceable in today's NFL.

They had a top rank defense an run game last year. They need Gabbert to improve. If the run game stalls some but Gabbert improves then so be it. They can easily finish 2nd in that division.

How many teams are going to trade for him. Gone are the days where you can trade a elite HB for Champ Bailey. They just don't have the same value they use to have.

So you help Gabbert in his second year by potentially trading your best weapon? Gotcha. RB's may be a dime a dozen, but MJD isn't one of those backs. And both backs you mentioned Giggas, have other options on their offense. The Jags have no other proven weapon.

If that best weapon gave a damn about helping Gabbert he would be in camp playing out his contract which is comparable to other top HBs in the league. Jennings has been tearing it up in the preseason. MJD has lost all leverage.

Easy for me to say because the Jags aren't my team...

I've liked MJD from DLS to UCLA to the NFL, lil man is a stud. I'll never forget this play from a couple of years back. Don't care if it was against my Bolts, it was beautiful.

You don't just replace a guy like MJD, especially in year one. Jags fans may regard Rashad Jennings highly, but you don't go from the NFL leader in rushing yards to another guy and not see a pretty noticeable drop off.

The Packers have a gigantic glaring need at running back.

                            Just saying.

I've always thought Marcedes Lewis was a good TE. Obviously he's not a Jason Witten or Antonio Gates(although he showed some signs in 2010 when he made the Pro Bowl), I wouldn't necessarily say MJD is the only proven weapon they have.

That being said, unless they're getting picks and/or players for him, then there's no need to trade him and the fact that RBs don't have the same value that they used to. You may not be able to replace the player but you can definitely replace the production from the position. It obviously won't be easy but it can be done.

Lewis is an asset, not what I'd call a weapon. Although I think you and I are mostly in the same ballpark about him.

I disagree w/ MJD's production being replace. No matter when he's on the field, he doesn't give away what you're running. He excels at running, catching, and blocking. That is not easy to find, unless you want to find three one dimensional backs.
