Instead of all the Public "(Expletive) you, I'm going to beat the (Expletive) out of you so bad.." back and forth rhetoric. Just looks childish to me.
Bottom line. Dockett had to respond that way. As Chris Culliver showed us all there is still a very pronounced stigma about homosexuality in the NFL locker room. Not only would opponents make fun of him but his teammates would be open to "In the pile trash talk" but one could lose their cool in the heat of the moment and draw penalties and ejections.

Rix had no business putting Dockett's personal stuff out there bottom line. If Dockett is gay that is his choice when and where to come out and Rix is a bitch made individual for what he did and said about a former brother of his at FSU.

      Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

Peyton Manning would not have reacted this way. Larry Fitzgerald would not have reacted this way. The list goes on. Not buying that. Just another superbravado athlete overreacting to having his manhood challenged.

I get why he reacted this way because thats the culture. But Im not buying he had to. He threatened to beat him up. Talk about over compensating. If Dockett were in fact gay, he could simply deny it, if he was not, he could simply deny it. His overblown reaction does nothing but add more attention to Rix's shameful words.

What Rix did is just sad.

        Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

Manning and Fitz would probably never have a former "teammate" call them out. All I'm saying is in the NFL locker room you can't have people doubting your heterosexuality, clearly given the numerous players like Culliver who have voiced their opinions on the subject. Your denial needs to be stronger than a normal no I'm not IMO.

Rix who has been in the same locker rooms and Dockett, knows there is an extreme homophobia in football locker rooms and knows that what he said WAY overstepped the bounds of what he should say.

I don't think making "public" threats is ever okay, but lets not pretend that NFL locker rooms are the most tolerant placed in the world either.

Who pretending? Hes gonna get an earful regardless of how hard he threatened the guy. Rix is an *** who should have known better.

Honestly I hadnt heard this story until Dockett went that extreme with his reaction and it became a hot topic. But all in all Im sure this becomes a non story withing a couple days. Its gonna be a slow 6 months.

Rix had that sweet flip for a first down or touchdown against Miami one year, didn't he? Did FSU and Miami usually have good games when he was there?

That's about all the extent I care about anything involving Chris Rix.

Former FSU and Houston Texans DT Travis Johnson weighs in on Rix vs Dockett:

Johnson came roaring to Dockett’s defense. Appearing on 610’s MaD Radio show, he told Mike Meltser and Seth Payne that Rix was talking about “foolishness” and “was trying to be relevant again.”

Johnson started his interview with a withering assault on Rix.

“We never wanted Chris Rix. Ever,” Johnson said. “Mark Richt didn’t want him, that’s why he went to Georgia instead of letting Coach (Bobby) Bowden retire in 2000.”

Then Johnson turned to the allegation involving Dockett.

“Even if it was true, which it’s not,” Johnson said. “Why would you say that about a teammate?

“Nobody has talked to Chris Rix in 10 years. Nobody talked to Chris Rix, nobody has his phone number, nobody cares to talk to Chris Rix."

You know, just because you get **** on unnecessarily in public and call someone out on it in a forceful fashion, doesn't mean that you're "overcompensating" or "actually secretly gay" or whatever.

I hate that notion. It's too prevalent in society across all things.

ZERO chance that they would postpone the game no matter what. It would be a logistical nightmare.

Even if there is 4 feet of snow the night before, the game is still happening.

It's a mark of insecurity on Dockett's part that he reacted as strongly as he did; there's a certain perception or image that Dockett wants to convey and clearly feels the need to protect, and the remarks by Rix he perceived as a threat to his social station one way or another, and thus he felt the need to issue a strong public response.

A more secure person wouldn't even begin to respond to the accusation or would simply dismiss it, either by no-commenting or making a diffusing joke about the matter. Either choice here shows comfort in one's own skin, either choice here would have been more prudent than the choice Dockett made. Instead, Dockett by lashing out so brazenly caused just as much of an unnecessary stir with his response as Rix did with his unnecessary accusation.

There's an idea of social grace and generally doing well by other people; neither Dockett nor Rix exhibited that in this case. Rix shouldn't have made such a public accusation about Dockett's personal life, particularly about such a publicly sensitive issue, and even more so an accusation that has nothing to do with Dockett's performance as a football player on the field. Dockett in turn shouldn't have taken the accusation as an extreme affront to his image, character, and social well-being.

Who here said he was secretly gay though? Theres a difference between overcompensating/being insecure with yourself, and being secretly gay.

                            Well isn't that the insinuation?

I don't believe there must always be some underlying feeling as a reason someone reacts a certain way.

The way you reply to something is not indicative of hiding something you feel inside. It's just.....the way you reply. It's your personality. You think Bob Knight overcompensates for something? Or Lou Pinella? Or Jim Mora? Or whoever? Was John McEnroe insecure because he would throw tantrums on the tennis court? No. Of course not. It's just the way they do things. It's not any indication of insecurity, not any indication of anything other than just the way they reply to things. Similarly, just because a guy like Tim Duncan or Kevin Durant or whoever has a calm demeanor, never replies to anything, etc doesn't mean they somehow AREN'T insecure or trying to hide something.

                            It's just.....not connected, lol.

Just for the record I never thought Dockett was gay, just personally don't like how he handled the situation. I don't like how the majority of these Pro athletes handle themselves through Social media these days. (type things out over Twitter without thinking through what the consequences would be when you're in the Public eye)

I equate it to some Douche bag in the office making fun of your car and you overhear it, and react by angrily storming into his cubicle throwing papers on the floor and telling him you'll Kill him, pulverize him if he ever talks that way about you again. Yes you get caught up in the moment, let out your anger... but everyone in the Office is just staring at you awkwardly going Did he really do that? Over that?

I don't know maybe I was just conditioned and grew up controlling my emotions better, and not letting outbursts of anger effect me. I work at a stressful job dealing with people, and there have been times I've wanted to throw things but I NEVER, ever reacted that way and let people see me get frustrated, as it would hurt the way my employer sees me. But I guess these Athletes don't have to worry about that, they get to type all the junk they want on Twitter, and go out and get DUI's and GMs will still pay them huge money regardless.

Rules are different for the top 1% in any profession. Not just athletes. Can't compare what they can & can't do with the rest of us.
