    Re: NFL Off Topic

Honestly Quarterbacks are protected enough as is. How many times have we seen a big name QB like Manning, Brady, Brees have their helmet brushed up against inadvertently and most often times incidentally by a Defender and the flag comes flying out.

So just because 9 QBs are on IR, and some big name guys like Cutler, and Rodgers got dinged up they are going off the deep end and revamping QB protection. I think that's wrong, Quarterbacks put on a helmet and pads, they are football players like the other 21 guys on the field.. they have just as much chance of getting injured on any given play.

Offenses already have a huge advantage under the current rules, by 2020 Football is going to be a joke with the way the rules committee is going.

I dunno if any of you were up early enough to see it but man, was it fun to see Sterling Sharpe and Shaun O'Hara playing darts while making their points about the Packers/Giants game this weekend. Sharpe apparently never played darts before and came away with 43 points to O'Hara's 36!

        Per PFT.com:

The Chiefs and Broncos will be playing on Sunday night instead of Sunday afternoon because of the league’s rules regarding flexing games into prime time in order to maximize the television audience for the best matchups.

There will be more flexing to come in 2014. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the league will institute a new system of cross flexing games between networks. A game that was scheduled for an regional slot on CBS could be moved to a late afternoon national spot on FOX under the new system. That would have been an option with the Chiefs and Broncos this week as they were slated to play on a regional telecast and the only way to get the game on more screens was to move it to Sunday night.

Schefter reports that the network losing the game would get another one to replace it, but that the details on just how everything will work are still being hammered out.

It may not be the only change. In 2011, Roger Goodell said that the league would look into starting flex scheduling earlier in the season when the new television contracts went into effect in 2014.

So I guess this would mean the end of CBS/FOX having exclusive rights to their conference's games?

For all the changes Goodell has made (or is expected to make) in his tenure, the flex scheduling for TV is one that I have zero complaints about. I see no problem with the league wanting to maximize the viewership of their best matchups.

While I really don't care and do enjoy flexing making for better games in the prime time slots. If I were one of the networks. I would be damned if I would lose a game, viewers and add revenue to another channel, especially on TV deals already negotiated. This is a win for the fans, but the networks should and probably are pissed.

Flex scheduling, great for fans watching at home, a pain in the *** for fans attending games.

I see that point, but they can "steal" a game themselves as well. I'm sure the NFL will accommodate them fairly.

I don't like the cross network thing. To me, the easiest solution would just be to get rid of the network doubleheaders and allow both networks each week to show 2 games.

They use today Broncos/Chiefs game as an example. It was already slated to be the late afternoon game and with only other CBS game in that timeslot if they had had the doubleheader this week it would have been the featured national game in the afternoon anyway but instead most markets had to use the early slot for other games.

I can't remember a season full of **** football the way this one has produced. Injuries and lack of practice time has really started to take away from the product on the field.

Apparently they don't want to, but without them the NFL has a big problem with them publishing it. Which sucks, because 99% of the time the caption sucks.

At least that's what they said.
