    Re: NFL Off Topic

I'm all for giving each team primetime games. I get tired of watching the same teams play all the time.

But having games on Thursdays is not the best idea due to the quick turnaround.

So his head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach have come out this week and criticized Russell Wilson this week.

      Thoughts?

Can they not schedule two Sunday bye teams for the Thursday night game?

They could to an extent, but you don't have teams with bye weeks every week. Bye weeks start week 4 and run through week 10 (I believe) so you still have week 1-3 and 11-16 where teams don't have them.

Would interfere with the international slate too, 10 teams/year playing in London by 2018 I think?

Is that for real? So stupid. NFL has the top product in sports, and they're trying their hardest to make it suck.

Yes. 5 games by 2018 as they start playing at a second stadium (Twickenham). Deal w/ Wembley was extended through 2020 and the Jags will play a home game there each year.

Nobody's moving to London anytime soon thankfully, still don't see how those logistics will ever add up.

I will say that it is kind of neat that they will be playing American Football in the stadium that is the home of the sport from which it came.

I would take one early Sunday morning London game each week over Thursday Night Football.

They aren't wrong, he's playing poor... but, with that being said, I think it's completely unreasonable to expect your QB to take steps forward when they criminally neglected the offensive line to this point. It's a disastrous gamble that has backfired big time.

There was an ESPN article that suggested that the coaching staff is trying to mitigate the oline issues in drastic ways, but Wilson is still getting pressured. In fact, during one play in the Arizona game, only two receivers went out on a play action bootleg, and Wilson still was pressured.

When your QB is placed under that kind of protection - or lack thereof - it doesn't matter how much your QB is paid; he's going to struggle and develop some bad habits as a passer.

As a side note... I don't want to hear Darrell Bevell throwing out criticism to anyone. He sure has a lot to say for someone who can't be bothered to come out with an effective gameplan week after week.

Is it a lack of effective game plan or a failure by the QB to execute the game plan called? Are people open and Wilson is pulling the ball down to run to early? Don't know and haven't really watched them on tape this season yet. May get to the Cardinals game tonight or tomorrow, but just wondering what your thoughts are?

                            Wow, glowing self endorsement.

I feel for you Lions fans. It's one thing to be a bad team, but it's another when you're under the rule of an incompetent owner or front office.

I always think back to the Chicago Blackhawks and Bill Wirtz. He ran that team in to the ground in the worst possible sense. He passes away, son takes over with a more forward thinking (or at least competent) approach and they're magically 3 time champions.

                              It's a mix of everything.

Russell has always had a mediocre line, but Having Max Unger around occasionally mitigated things a bit. Now that he's gone, the line is broken. More and more, it's affecting Wilson & his throws. He's anticipating pressure before it's even there, not getting his feet set when he throws, bailing the pocket early, etc. It also doesn't help that the running game has been dead this year as well.

Now add the offensive line issues/Russell's regression with poor coaching and you have what you see now: no short passing game of any kind, a reluctance to throw RB screens when the defense gets aggressive, read option not even being considered, no real attempt at "scheming" receivers open, mostly in the shotgun, barely any bootlegs. Greg Cosell had said before that the Hawks run a pretty basic elementary offense and he's right: We're basically stuck in a 70's time warp and the coaches' basic philosophy with all of it is "Just man up and do it."

This is why I love Bruce Arians as a coach. He's an X & O's kind of guy, and is always prepared for the opponent. While I have absolutely nothing against Pete Carroll, he's much more of a rah-rah/player's coach kind of guy and his main focus is defensive. And at the moment, he's not surrounded by the kind of coaches that can make up for whatever deficiencies he lacks. In fact, the recent comments being made by Bevell & Tom Cable reek more of them saving their own asses by throwing players under the bus, rather than being held accountable like they tell their players to. And Bevell has been doing that since the Super Bowl ended.
