    Re: NFL Off Topic

I barely watch any non-Texans games and I hardly watched the Texans this week because of the team's situation and the playoffs on at the same time.

The sport of football has been masked by fantasy, gambling and the "Sunday Event" of it all for a long time now and people are seeing past it and are fed up with the way things are going. Lots of bells and whistles to distract you from a failing, foolish sport that doesn't offer too much in the way of game variance and is laughable with its constant muddling and softening of the rules.

The game is practically unrecognizable and all the annoying off-field **** doesn't help matters. We'll see how the numbers bare this out going forward. Hopefully the sport is knocked off its pedestal for a bit and is forced to reassess its direction.

Chargers owner Alex Spanos dies at 95 https://t.co/nIECcWPh85

      @AdamSchefter
Week 7, Oct. 21, the 4-1 Bengals and 5-0 Chiefs are being flexed to Sunday night, per source. Rams-49ers, which was scheduled for that night, will be moved to 4:25 pm. So it’ll be two straight Sunday night games for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Bengals lone SNF appearance.

Looks like Showtime Mahomes is the new flavor of the moment (and rightfully so)

I wonder what BK thinks of the passing of Alex Spanos? LOL

          Good read about Brees

Brees became the NFL’s career leader in passing yardage on Monday. He also holds the record for completions and could soon set the record for touchdowns. In an era with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers, it’s worth asking: Where does Brees rank in the all-time QB pantheon?

NFL owners r 2 vote next week to eliminate the decades old cross ownership rule, which prevents MLB,NHL and NBA owners from buying an NFL team outside their local markets.

This will open the door to more potential buyers w/ deep pockets getting involved with the NFL who weren't able to previously.

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was able to avoid what looked like a sure sack in the second half of Sunday’s game when he was wrapped up by Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes.

Mariota didn’t wriggle free due to his own efforts, however. Hughes let him go and he confirmed after the game that he did so because he didn’t want to become the latest player flagged for roughing the passer while finishing a tackle.

“I made an inside move and I’m underneath the quarterback at that point in time. When I go to wrap you up I’m naturally low so I’m naturally underneath you,” Hughes said, via NewYorkUpstate.com. “If I pick him up and finish him, it’s a 15-yard penalty and they might score [a touchdown] on that drive. It’s a tough situation to be in, and I’m very thankful that our secondary played lights out all day and got us off the field.”

Mariota threw an incompletion on the play and the Titans had to settle for one of Ryan Succop‘s four field goals. Hughes said he spoke to referee Tony Corrente, who flagged Packers linebacker Clay Matthews for a much-discussed roughing penalty earlier this year, about what to do in the future.

“I spoke to the white hat and he just told me just to wrap up and drive him backwards and they’ll blow the whistle and mark his forward progress,” Hughes said. “Now I know for the future. I found myself in a very vulnerable position and what do you do? Do you finish the tackle or just hold onto him? Now I know.”

Hughes did come up with a sack later in the game that forced the Titans to kick another field goal on their way to a 13-12 loss.
That is pathetic. So damn pathetic.

Mike Daniels did the same thing to Cousins in that Vikings-Packers game. It just didn’t get talked about because of the other BS.

I mentioned that after the Bills game this past Sunday and I agree, it's pathetic. If the receiver hadn't dropped the ball and the Titans hang on to win (that completion would've been for a TD) then you'd be hearing A LOT about it.

These plays have happened from time to time since the rules began to change to protect QBs. I'm sure they'll continue to happen

Something similar like this happened last night with Sparks letting go of Brady because he thought he threw the pass... Brady proceeded to run it in.
