    Re: NFL Off Topic

Came across some prototype Buccaneers helmets from when they rebranded in the 90s.

I like the second black one, with the big flag.

      Re: NFL Off Topic

Going to throw this here rather than the wildcard thread since it's more rule based and I don't want it to sidebar that thread somehow.

Regarding the disaster touchback that was originally ruled a touchdown on the field. I think we all agree they got it right by continuing to allow them to do the same thing every returner has done all year.

BUT. Had they decided otherwise, it actually wouldn't have been a touchdown.

It would have been an illegal forward pass from the endzone and would have been changed to a safety instead of a touchdown.

Could the Texans decline the penalty to take the TD?

          No, it isn't a fumble.

If the hand signal is the player giving up on the play, the ref has got to blow the whistle immediately. At the same time, the player shouldn't be chucking the ball until he hears a whistle....didn't we all learn that back in pee-wee? Play to the whistle?

It would have been a bogus TD or Safety for the Bills, so glad they fixed it. But I am not crazy about refs making decisions based upon "Well, we know what he meant".

I don't really disagree but that's become the norm over the last half dozen seasons or so.

I mean, we've all seen ball that aren't even fielded that actually check up in the end zone that are ruled dead. I think it's fair to say that what we learned back then is no longer an actual rule.

To me, it isn't all that different from when a rookie goes down without being touched, forgets he isn't playing NCAA rules anymore and just leaves the ball on the ground.

It is to me. Of all the rule changes (or unofficial changes) to quibble about, this isn't it.

I guess with so many touchbacks now it's just laziness, idk.

I haven't seen a player take a knee in that scenario all year until that call (then obviously they did the rest of the game).

Even in tonights game the players weren't taking a knee after giving the same signal.

                            I'd throw a fuss to.

Like I said before, we've seen balls check up in the endzone all year with the returner giving themselves up and having it ruled dead.

But is it a rule? Because sorry, I wouldn't assume the ref is just going to call it dead just because...…..

Lol. They've called it dead that way for years.

And after convening ruled it dead.

They didn't come to that conclusion just to be nice.
