      Game cancelled

      https://nflcommunications.com/Docume...Cincinnati.pdf
Cancelling the game between the Bills and Bengals creates potential competitive inequities in certain playoff scenarios. In an effort to mitigate those inequities, NFL clubs will consider tomorrow in a Special League Meeting a resolution recommended by the Commissioner and approved today by the Competition Committee, consisting of two elements:

      1. The AFC Championship Game will be played at a neutral site if the participating teams played an unequal number of games and both could have been the number one seed and hosted the game had all AFC clubs played a full 17-game regular season. Those circumstances involve Buffalo or Cincinnati qualifying for the game as a road team and are listed below:

      Scenario 1
Buffalo and Kansas City both win or both tie – a Buffalo vs Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site.

      Scenario 2
Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Baltimore wins or ties – a Buffalo vs Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site.

      Scenario 3
Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Cincinnati wins – a Buffalo or Cincinnati vs Kansas City championship game would be at a neutral site.

      2. If Baltimore defeats Cincinnati in Week 18 it will have defeated Cincinnati, a divisional opponent, twice but will not be able to host a playoff game because Cincinnati will have a higher winning percentage for a 16-game schedule than Baltimore will for a 17-game schedule.

If Baltimore defeats Cincinnati and if those two clubs are scheduled to play a Wild Card game against one another, the site for that game would be determined by a coin toss. If Cincinnati wins the Week 18 game or if Baltimore and Cincinnati are not scheduled to play one another in the Wild Card round, the game sites would be determined by the regular scheduling procedures.

“As we considered the football schedule, our principles have been to limit disruption across the league and minimize competitive inequities,” Goodell said. “I recognize that there is no perfect solution. The proposal we are asking the ownership to consider, however, addresses the most significant potential equitable issues created by the difficult, but necessary, decision not to play the game under these extraordinary circumstances.”

Sounds like really good news on Hamlin. Keep it coming.

Those scenarios address the possible HFA but not the bye week. I am gathering that KC is in the driver's seat for that. In that case, if KC wins then Buffalo should consider resting some starters. Allen, Poyer, Johnson, and Morse at a minimum.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

Yeah, strange who gets the first round bye scenario isn’t included in that. Someone mentioned Bills/Bengals got a semi-bye this week only playing a quarter, so the rest portion of it I’m okay with. But man, one less game to have to win to win it all is a big deal. My guess is the blurb on winning percentage applies across the board for seeding.

Like I said, someone was getting the short end of the stick. But I think with the neutral site stuff, they’re doing as much as they can to make it as fair as possible. I’m cool with it. No excuses. We did the right thing on MNF, we got the road map to how to win it all, just gotta go do it.

Semi-related but do you guys think they’ll eventually expand the playoffs to 8 teams per conference in the future?

As soon as I heard the possibility of them letting 8 teams in this year I figured it would eventually lead to 8 teams getting in permanently

Nothing surprises me anymore but I hope not, it should mean something to earn the bye.

I’m certain the league will eventually grow to 36 teams, 18 game seasons, and 9 teams in the playoffs. I think that will make the schedule and everything work like how it was when it was 32 teams and 16 games. Someone else can math that out.

The expansion of the league (teams, games, playoff teams) seems inevitable but it’ll probably happen over 20+ years so it won’t feel as jarring. NFL hasn’t added any new teams in over 20 years. You know they’re itching for that!!

I fully expect an 18-game schedule (with two bye weeks) and eight-team (per conference) playoffs within the next 10 years. Won't surprise me if it's in the next five.

Hamlin had his breathing tube removed overnight. He's speaking with family and doctors and even FaceTimed with his teammates.

                        Awesome news!

The only way 9 teams works is with a "Play-in" week. I guess that's better than nothing, but for this year it would leave us with a weekend with only two games, drawing from Lions/Packers/Seahawks and Dolphins/Steelers/Pats/Jags

                          Play-in (9->8) - WC (8->4) - Div (4->2) -> CCG (2->1) -> Pro Bowl/Bye -> Super Bowl.

9 teams would suck - do not want at all.

I"m against all 9-8 & 8-9 teams in the post seasons, so 8 teams, and even 7 teams is a bit much for me, so I definitly dont want 9 teams

Going from watching CPR being performed for 8-9 minutes and wondering “this is too long” and wondering if he’s going to make it/be able to even function to being neurologically intact and seemingly is going to have a normal life is the absolute best outcome.
