    Cool.

Players understand their value and are able to get paid commensurate with their abilities and value to the team.

Team makes a lot of money. Quarterback (from Bryce Young to Patrick Mahomes) puts more butts in the seats. Team makes more money. Player get paid more. In what universe does that not make sense? (rhetorical)

Nothing I said was "cocky" (surprise, you missed that part), just very simple concepts, hence my opinion, which is one I've had for years...and it gets proved once again.

That's the nature of their position though. It's the easiest to pick up from college so there's always someone younger to take the job. If you want a long career, learn to run routes and become a wideout.

But man... You miss one kick at the wrong time and you become a city's mortal enemy forever. FFS, Norwood has had to live with that so long someone made a movie about a guy wanting to kill him (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_%2766)

The contracts are ridiculous, but it's the scale.

As long as it doesn't hamper ability/scale to fill out the roster then it's just the same proportions or whatever.

Now would I personally give some of these dollar amounts or control to some of these hostage takers like the massage addict molester? Probably not. "Your mileage may vary" or whatever.

The NFL almost made more money last year than the NBA, MLB, and NHL combined - increasing by about a billion dollars. So curious - where should the additional revenue go?

As far as players holding out to maximize their compensation, I guess everyone forgot Damar Hamlin literally almost died in a game.

Can’t lucidly blame players for being smarter and more prudent, wanting to make more as the league becomes more profitable, given the occupational hazards.

Let’s also acknowledge that the # of insanely large contracts getting dished out to players isn’t as big as y’all making it seem.

Outside of the QBs(which is always going to be the case)most of the contracts have pretty been right in line with what they *should* be getting.

I've been waiting for the analytics GM to draft a QB, then trade him before he cashes in, pay the defense, draft another QB with the score of picks you got, etc, keep doing it and see how that works. It probly won't lol, but I wanna see someone try it

It's still wild to me that people get upset with the players as opposed to the networks and owners about the money.

I remember thinking like that when I was 16 and still religiously playing Madden. Then the light bulb flickered and I realized I could go somewhere else to make more money.

I feel like that GM wouldn’t even make it to the 2nd Qb(outside of injury of course)with how impatient most of these owners are.

I’d wanna see it just for the debates that would ensue from it, lol

Andy Reid was on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast show and said that the Fullback position is being eased out of the game.

Didn’t think about it til I realized that most teams really don’t carry a FB anymore or pretty much use a 2nd -3rd string TE back there.

Always figured they would be around tbh

Yeah that's basically it. The trick is to have a tweener player who can block a little but also catch or take the occasional hand off. Juicecheck (not even attempting to spell it) from San Francisco is obviously the ideal there. The guy who's just a battering ram for a halfback to follow is pretty dead.

This reminds me, Larry Centers was awesome

(damnit I tried to link some highlights but was blocked, he was fullback diving over the middle for catches, leaping over defenders as rusher, the guy could do everything)

There haven't been a lot of teams to try it but the ones who were successful have had great payoffs. Generally though it is the backup being traded and not the starter.

Cassel was the last one and Pats got great returns on that. Hasselbeck was traded when Farve was good. Jaguars made Rob Johnson look good as an injury fill-in and got picks that got Fred Taylor.

With the salary cap now, it's hard for a GM to spend a pick on a QB if they already have a starter. The window is small and you can't pay the QB and the team, so spending the draft picks on cheap replacements is important.

You would be looking at 6 or 7th round QBs and putting them on the practice squad and hoping you hit the lottery on one of them. Even if you spend a 1st round pick, it would be a later pick so you are looking at the 2nd tier QBs by then. With the success rate of QB picks, any GM trying it would be fired.
