His numbers are INCREDIBLY similar which is shocking. I think one difference is that Irvin was still being quite productive when his career was cut short. I daresay if Irvin had a full career that he'd make Johnson look really bad in comparison.

Chad had a very good peak but the combination of being too much of a distraction and not being really thought of as being the top receiver in the game puts him down a peg or two.

    So, no to Chad Johnson.

Like Chad Johnson a lot but I see him just as a poster child for an era of diva WRs rather than HOF material.

To add to this, during the years I mentioned he was 4th, 6th, 3rd, 1st, and 3rd in yards and averaged 92.4 catches/year (although he never hit the "magic milestone" of 100 catches). That's a great 5-year stretch.

Chad's a lock for the Hall of Very Good. But I'm with everyone else in that he's not HOF material.

The guy was so ridiculously quiet and seemed like he was anti-social almost. I wouldn't be surprised if he declines the speech honestly.
I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't show up period, especially with all the dirt that came out after he left the league.

I would be shocked is Johnson got it. He was pretty damn good for a stretch but he just was not at the top for a truly extended period of time. When I think of the 00's best receivers, Johnson is around hardly even fifth on that list, and that is too far down.

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?

The main reason I say no is based on the fact that there are so many receivers ahead of him that will need to get in, and there's no guarantee that they'll get in any time soon.

I honestly thought it was close, guess not. If nobody wants to step forward with a yes, then I will move to the next player.

I'm going to say no to both Chad Johnson and Chad Ochocinco.

Had some very good seasons, but didn't sustain them. And I never really considered him "elite."

I feel Johnson will be remembered for his celebrations and antics. People will remember him for his ego. He really doesn't seem to have HOF stats. He could POSSIBLY make it as more of a sentimental guy based on his personality. Although I'm gonna have to with a NO.

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?

If it turns out that this era of passing was a fluke, and passing and receiving stats drop back down to 1980s/early 90's levels, than maybe Mr. Johnson has a chance. Outside of that, he should not get in. He was a very good receiver but never truly achieved greatness when compared to his contemporary colleagues.

The second Oregon State Beaver to come up!

Even though Chad went to the same school as me (even if it was for all of 3 months) I'm going to have to say no. Despite his really good numbers, he just doesn't have that Hall of Fame....something.

Not to derail the thread but by dirt you mean possibly taking a known drug dealer off the streets or bouncing at his own bars and ensuring drugs and guns didn't make it into his establishments?

Chad Johnson= Hall of very Good, Harrison would be a good player to debate just based of my memory of him.

Harrison is a virtual lock if you go by the numbers.

                            1,1102 receptions (3rd all-time), 14,580 receiving yards (6th all-time) and 128 receiving touchdowns (5th all-time).

His 8 year run between 1999-2006 is one of the best 8 year stretches a WR has ever had. He averaged 103 receptions for 1,402 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns during that stretch. That is insanely elite.

EDIT- Jerry Rice's best 8 year run comes out to 98/1,437/13 per year. Almost identical.

I just remember him being an absolute beast, based on the above I would have to concur- HOF Lock.

The logjam of WRs who should've been 'locks' yet aren't in yet - namely Cris Carter and Tim Brown - makes me think some of these WRs may have to wait a little while unfortunately.
