Loved Atwater and would have no problem with him getting in. I don't see it ever happening, but I would vote for him myself if I could.

Absolutely not on Smith. He was just an accumulator and there are plenty of better receivers that aren't in now or ever will be inducted.

No on Davis for we as well. All-World talent, but just not a big enough body of work for me. Also, plenty of things have changed since the 60s (sports medicine, etc.) so the Sayers argument doesn't apply as far as I'm concerned.

Atwater was my favorite player from the Broncos growing up (Born in SD so big Chargers fan but Mom was from Denver so had a soft spot for the Broncos). Such a big hitter. Him crushing Okoye (sp?) is still one of my all time favorite plays.

Atwater should, best safety in the 90's.
Rod Smith has no chance. Was a good WR and a solid contributor on 2 Super Bowl winning teams? Yes, but we are talking right now how guys like Terrell Owens and Randy Moss might not make the HOF, and Tim Brown has yet as well. All those guys were better than Smith.

Terrell Davis, IMO, should. His numbers are just astonishing, and to me more remarkable is the postseason stats he accumulated.

Hmmm...I'd have to think long and hard on Atwater vs Rod Woodson.

Woodson is probably a runway favorite, though. Atwater was good, but Woodson was much better.

Woodson played corner for much more of his career than safety.

              He'd be 1 of 5 guys with at least 1,000 rec., 10,000 yards, and 50 + TD's.

              The other 4 being:

              Jerry Rice
              Cris Carter
              Tim Brown
              Terrell Owens

All current or future HoFers. That's what makes me say he goes.

Edit: I stand corrected. My initial soucre was incomplete. I didn't think about Marvin Harrison, Hines Ward and Issac Bruce.

After further review. No. He doesn't make it.

Haven't really kept up with this thread, is discussion pretty much still on the OP nominating a player or are we just throwing guys out there?

If we're throwing in another Woodson, how about Darren Woodson vs Steve Atwater. Both have a very comparable body of work.

                        What about Reggie Wayne, guys?

If he plays two more seasons and stays healthy he will have about as many receptions and yards as Marvin Harrison had, just not as many touchdowns.

                          Here's a layup: Ken Anderson.

Led the league in passer rating 4 times, completion percentage 3 times (and held the single-season record until Drew Brees broke it 29 years later), and yards per attempt twice.

His unadjusted rate numbers compare well to even some 90s greats (Aikman, Elway, etc.) His adjusted numbers - which account for his playing in the unfriendliest passing era in the history of the league, in Cincinnati, and against the Steel Curtain twice a year - are terrific, as shown above.

Anderson is basically to the PFHOF what Tim Raines and Edgar Martinez are to the MLB HOF: objective "no-doubters" that should have been elected a long time ago.

If Len Dawson and Sonny Jurgensen are in, then Ken Anderson absolutely should be.

Ken Stabler. He 'only' won one Super Bowl, though the Raiders were one of the top teams during his entire run, usually the bridesmaid.

He probably should have, but if he hasn't made it by now, I doubt he makes it.
