After he butt fumbled it got ridiculous. Rex Ryan guaranteeing championships made them public enemy number one, but then they were winning and noone could say anything. Now they suck and they are easy targets.

Before the Sanchez/Rex era the Jets were lame and they werent anywhere near this level of hate and vitrol magnets.

Now the Jets draft a QB and the rhetoric becomes "what were they thinking! Drafting a qb to replace Sanchez OMG what a dumb move! Dont they realize they have 6 QBs now what are they thinking!"

Its hilariously ridiculous. Until Rex and Sanchez go and they start winning again, it will always be easy to pick on the Jets. All I know is Idzik is working something good in Jets land. I look forward to them building and hopefully we can have two relevant clubs in NY soon.

I mean if Jax drafted Smith, would anybody say anything about it? It would be the same situation, football wise.
I think you're going overboard with your use of 'hate' and 'vitriol', at least when it comes to folks that post on here. Is there criticism/cynicism? Yes, and deservedly so IMO. I can't speak for whatever NY circles/talk radio you listen to, but at least on here it's been fair criticism by and large questioning whether Smith can succeed all things considered (coach on the hot seat who isn't known for his offensive prowess, questionable weapons on offense, QB controversy right off the bat). None of those things are the best situation to throw any young QB into, but all 3 of them together could spell trouble. At least on here, that's what I've seen most people saying. Not "OMG THE JETS R DUMB WTF R THEY DOING" or anything like that.

Again, this is a team that just picked up one of the most polarizing figures in sports, seemingly only for publicity (since they didn't use him), played a public game of musical chairs w/ the QB position last year, and they throw another QB into the fold - yes, there's going to be criticism/cynicism, and it isn't just everyone 'magically' turning into a Jets h8ter overnight. They've given the public plenty of ammo FWIW.

I'd be willing to bet that if almost any other team has drafted Smith in the second, it'd be considered a steal. The Jets do it and it's because Smith has issues. I'm not really referring to people here per say, but the public in general.

Want to hear something funny? Mayock liked Smith right up until the point the Jets drafted him and then he completely changed his tune because that's the cool thing to do. They even showed lowlights of Smith instead of the usual highlights, which I'm not sure they did for any other prospect the entire draft. Oh wait they did for one other... Milliner. Also drafted by the Jets. Because the number one rated CB and QB deserve such treatment.

        Yep.

Milliner's highlights were all the passes he dropped during the Combine. Great job by Mayock even though Milliner participated in the Combine with a bum shoulder.

I couldn't believe they showed that only to trump up Mayock's new #1 CB Hayden.

I lost some respect for Mayock as the draft went on.

Concerning Geno, look how much praise they gave the Eagles for trading up to grab Barkley in the 4th round when they already had 3 QBs on the roster and Barkley doesn't even fit Kelly's system.

I'm still trying to figure out what "weapons" the Jets were supposed to draft.

Mark Sanchez's career completion percentage is 55% . He's had open targets and just misses them. Or throws it to the other team because he can't read a defense. Or fumbles. Add on that he's the worst screen-passer I've ever seen and you get a 55% career passer with 89 turnovers in 4 years. That's not a misprint.

The Jets didn't do him all the favors in the world, but let us not act like Sanchez has been great.

Really? I guarantee if the Raiders have taken him there would have been the usual "Raiders had to draft him after his fast 40 time/Raiders make another questionable QB choice after Russell and Pryor/Oakland had more holes to fill/is Al Davis still alive" rhetoric.

The Bills are also getting criticized for taking Manuel, so there's that. The Cowboys would have also gotten crapped on had they taken Smith R2, even though he may have been the 'best player available' for them. Is it overboard in some circles, yeah, but that doesn't mean it's not fair to question the pick. Just because it's a round 2 pick doesn't mean you can't criticize it or question whether Geno can succeed there, is my main point.

If you think the Bills is getting more heat than the Jets for drafting Manuel over Smith, you're delusional.

We're the most hated team in Football right now.

I'm going to have to disagree with this part. The Pats may not get criticized as much as the Jets, but we're definitely hated more. I don't think fans around the league root against any single team more than the Patriots.

There's even a thread on this site with a 1,000+ posts dedicated to hating the Patriots.

The Cowboys easily come to mind with a nationwide hatred that reaches just as deep as the Patriots. You guys aren't special.

That thread here comes from the way some Patriot fans around here have been known to act. "They hate us because we're good" or "We just have what they don't so they dislike us." Not so.

I wasn't trying to say the Pats are special, or that being hated is some great accomplishment to be proud of, just that I believe they are the most hated.

I know that Dallas and other teams around the league receive their fair share of hate, but I honestly feel the Pats currently receive the most.

You're slightly mistaken if you think drafting Manuel makes the Bills hated. More like laughing-stock, but whatever.

Im still wondering who the Jets were suppose to take in the second round instead of Geno. Since Geno Smith apparently was the last thing a team with no quarterback on the roster needed.

Like I said its easy to shoot bullets at the Jets because thats the fun thing to do. Can it blow up in ther face? Sure but so can the other 200 picks in the draft.

Its funny how Geno firing agents and allegedly wanting to skip day two is now news and criticism worthy. Please. Thats not necessarily a knock on this forum.

And on Manuel, I havent heard anything about him at all since draft day one.

I actually don't disagree with their pick as many other's do but to say they are a team with no other quarterback on their roster is a little confusing to me unless I'm misunderstanding you.

I think most that criticize them claim that with the number of QB's they already had they should have gone after a different position of need which really is a legitimate argument but it's clear they wanted to draft a QB which I'm okay with.

But to say they had no quarterback is a stretch to me.

We'll have to disagree on that then. I was one of Sanchez's biggest apologists on this site and I still think he is salvageable on another roster. But he is horrendous and has burned his time in NY with turnover after turnover and seemingly no real progress in 4 years.

Greg Mackelroy, Matt Simms, and David Garrard are nothing to hang your hat on at that position. Two of them havent done much to impress and one is coming off a surgery that looked to end his career so theres no telling what Garrard is. And he wasnt much before.
