    Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread

Let's pick this thread up off the ground. Anyone going to watch training camp? I've thought about it, but it's about a 7 hr drive for me and I'm not sure that I can afford it. I'd love to go. I'm excited to see Matt Moore start. I think that he can be the guy and he finally gets the chance. What does everyone else think?

Can't wait for tonight. Interested in seeing how Clausen, Lafell, and Edwards will look. I am just praying that no one gets hurt.

There is nothing special about the Special Teams. Armanti Edwards is still cutting his teeth on Punt Returns though. Clausen flashed moments of brilliance making plays out of nothing. Our defense looked great. It seems like Meeks has a lot of talent to work with.

No it was only Moore and Clausen last game. He did get some work in the Ravens game if I remember correctly.

With as much as Carolina likes QB Hunter Cantwell, I think Pike may get cut with the hopes of re-signing him to the practice squad if things continue the way they are playing out this preseason.

That's definitely a probability, since he has dropped all the way to 4th string now. Unless he really shows them something special in the last two pre-season games.

If he does get cut im willing to bet Buffalo will try and get him, he was our QB of choice this draft and its not everyday a 5th? rounder gets cut.

He was a 6th rounder but I see what you are saying. I'd imagine Buffalo would have to keep him on the active roster to claim him off waivers. I don't know how Buffalo's backup QB situation looks right now, so it could very well happen.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but this starting job is 100% Matt moores? And clausen doesnt have a shot?or is it Moore has to tank while Clausen shines?or theyre even? im hearing moore is the guy but i can't see Carolina drafting Clausen to ride the bench either.

There has been media scuttle butt that Moore is now in some danger of losing the job to Clausen after two very average games. I don't think there is any way that they throw Clausen out there week 1. No way.

Now if after a few weeks, Moore isn't getting the job done I could see him being pulled but I think Coach Fox really likes what he can do.

By the way, I caught the Bills preseason game replay on NFLN and Brian Brohm looked pretty good as the backup. They are saying it's between Fitzpatrick and Brohm for the #2 job is that correct? They also mentioned Gailey being high on a 7th round pick from Troy (i think) as the #3 guy.

Oh yeah absolutely. Brohm has had good showings but were cutting either him or fitzy. Fitzpatrick is looking great as well. Personally i think that we should keep Fitzpatrick for the veteran backup, but also i think Brohm will stay because of his age, and Gailey can mold him into his system, as for levi brown, i went to the bills practices at St. John Fischer and he threw a ball from his knees 65 yards, i like this kid.

Back to the Panthers though, I watched the last pre-season game and Moore didnt look bad it was more of a low ended performance from the recievers in my opinion.,

Yeah the receivers without Steve Smith are below average. I really hope WR/KR Trent Guy makes the team. This kid has a chance to make big plays on kickoffs, punt returns, and in the slot in my opinion. Dwayne Jarrett is literally in his make or break year, not just for Carolina, but probably for the NFL as the #2 guy opposite Smith. After Jarrett I'm not very inspired. Brandon LaFell and Kenny Moore are fighting for #3 WR. I like Lafell more for his ability to catch balls that aren't necessarily thrown perfectly. He can adjust really well. On the other hand Moore has a year in the offense. After those two it's Armanti Edwards (a college QB) and David Gettis (a 7th rd pick). That's why I really like Trent Guy.

We just lost WR Wallace Wright to IR and cut WRs Dexter Jackson and a kid named Oliver, so Trent Guy has a shot I think.

Pike is almost certainly gone IMO. He hasn't seen any action in games 2 or 3. It might be preseason game 4 as the battle between Cantwell and Pike, we'll see.

First Panthers game I have been to since the inaugural season when they played in Death Valley. I am excited.
