I don't think its pushing the panic button. I think its following the trends. The Panthers play in the preseason coupled w/Delhomme's charity doesn't leave a person optomistic. When you see the problems teams are exposing (nothing in the middle of the defensive front, no targets to make the defense stop shadowing Smith, no experienced backup to make Fox yank MisJake) w/no solutions on the roster, you're just facing reality.

Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
Jake has now hit Rock Bottom with fans. If he fails Sunday, it was expected. But, if he succeeds... He has NOTHING to lose against ATL on Sunday. I'm excited and I think we can win.F-L-O-R-I-D-A! S-T-A-T-E! Florida State! Florida State! Florida State! Wooooo!Comment

Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
So I only watched the last 10 minutes of the game yesterday. Despite the loss, I think Panther fans should be encouraged. When you see how bad they looked the preseason & Jakes bumbling of the offense, going into Atlanta seemed like the recipe for disaster. Even in better times, the Georgia Dome has always brought out the worst in the Panthers. So for Jake not to play badly, the running game looked productive, turnovers even, I say Sunday was a step in the right direction. It looks to me the diff was Atlanta got good field position on KO's & scored TD's while Carolina got fg's.
Can anyone clarify things for me, or was that the gist of how things went?Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

I am jumping ship, no longer a Panthers fan. I'm just going to stop watching NFL football.Comment

Oh, goodie. Louis Leonard is now out indefinitely.
Seriously, if you play fantasy, you gotta start the RB that goes against Carolina every week.Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
Yeah it keeps getting worse and worse at DT.
Otherwise I like this team to bounce back and get a wild card. Jake "seems" like he settled down, pretty much everything D0ugh said ...Favorite Sports Teams
NFL - Carolina Panthers
NBA - Charlotte Hornets
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
College Basketball - Wake Forest
NCAA Football - Appalachian StateComment

Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
You've got more optimism than me.
Our running game looked the same as last year (which is good) but it can't be effective when our D is giving up points continually. The points in week 1 would be chalked up to the Jake but week 2 is purely the defense's fault. Charles Godfrey needs to shape up IMO - he plays way too soft to the point when he reacts to the pass he's at least 5-10 yards away from where he should be. The TD pass to [I believe] Tony Gonzalez is case in point.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

13 more L's and maybe John Fox and Jake Delhomme won't be back... Never wanted a team to lose but delhomme and fox need to be gone and that is the only way I could see it happening.Comment

Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
It's a shame. I like Foxie, because of what he did coming in, immediately establishing respectability after the 1-15 disaster under Seifert. But he's unwisely hitched his wagon to the color blind Cajun, and with Bill Cowher residing just up the road, he needed to get this team back on track after the Arizona debacle in January.Comment

Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
That's the hitch. I get the vibe Cowher likes his life now. And really, could any organization in sports be better than the Steelers? It might be a tough sale. But not if he wants to get back in coaching.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread
I don't know, JD, think about it. The personnel on this team is very similar to what Cowher dominanted w/his Steelers' teams. Great running game, a defense that can be transformed into a 3-4 defense - think how spectacular Peppers could be as an OLB in that defense.
How could Cowher pass that up if he's given a lot of dough to come here?Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
