Has anybody heard anything about Bunkley? I am hoping it wasn't serious and he'll be ready for the opener.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Broncos first cuts (via Denverpost.com):
Nate Jones (cornerback)
Braxton Kelley (linebacker)
Shawn Murphy (guard)
David Veikune (defensive end)
C.J. Gable (running back)
Deron Mayo (linebacker)
Curt Porter (tackle)
Last I heard about Bunkley was a "knee sprain." Nate Jones is a bit of a surprise to me, considering the status of Perrish Cox.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I didn't think Nate would be in the first round of cuts, but I thought he was a longshot to make the team. I don't know how he did during camp, but Nate had a really rough preseason during the games. I don't remember him really making a positive play. He was out of position often, not to mention drawing penalties. I believe he was the one who got flagged for PI in the endzone against the Seahawks.
I'm not sure what to think about Cox. Everytime I see him make a play, I don't really have a reaction. I can't help but think his days as a Bronco are numbered and I don't think he has a lot of time left as a free man. Innocent until proven guilty, yes, but there's a lot of bad evidence stacked against him.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Yeah... maybe in time Irving will shine. They were projecting him as starting MLB (very hard to dislike Mays). It seems like few of their other picks have gone largely unnoticed as well (Mohomad, Green, Carter, and Beal).
As a Bronco fan, I am still pretty excited about their draft class of '11. It looks like they have four definite starters in Miller, Moore, Thomas, and Franklin.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Last night's game highlighted an issue with the Broncos: depth. The second string got kicked around and was largely ineffective. This has been the case all preseason, and this game really exposed it. If the Broncos can avoid injury to the bigger players, this won't be a concern. But if we lose guys for an extended period of time (Bailey, Dumervil, etc), this could really affect the performance of the team. We're already without DJ Williams for a month due to his elbow.
I think the secondary is of real concern. Perrish Cox could be on his way to jail, and Syd'quan Thompson just seriously injured his foot. I would expect to see either Nate Jones brought back, or we possibly claim some CBs off waivers. The only guy we have, outside of Bailey and Goodman, is Cassius Vaughn.
Secondly, our defensive line will suffer GREATLY if Dumervil goes down this year. It's painfully obvious that w/o his presence on the line, many of the DEs and DTs just don't pose a consistent threat.
That all being said, I understand that Coach Fox had VERY limited time to evaluate his personnel due to the lock out. Throughout this year and into next year, he'll be able to properly work on getting depth.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Yep....depth is definitely an issue. Last night was a train wreck.
It will be interesting to see who Denver can pick up on the waiver wire. I thought Cox was going to get cut, but with Thompson's injury... I don't see how they can. Maybe they will bring Nate Jones back.
The success of Denver's season will be directly tied to how many injuries they sustain.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I was glad to see Denver did cut Cox even though that leaves them thin at corner.... for now. That's where I expect them to make a move. Cox blew it. Given the road he has ahead of him, it will be interesting to see if someone else picks him up.
I read that Damarius Thomas was cleared to practice, so he'll be returning much sooner than anticipated. That's awesome news. Hopefully he can finally stay healthy.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I would expect Thomas to return around game 4. That's just my super duper uneducated opinion, but I'm basing that on him not getting any reps at all throughout the off-season and preseason. He'll need to get back up to game speed, so it's going to take some time. Either way, I love our WR corps.Comment
