Losing Bailey is HUGE. Just throwing that out there, but the run D has been God awful from the start so I hear you. I don't follow them close enough to know if he's tried some players that have just underwhelmed but changing coordinators definitely has to have something to do with it. I'm guessing he gets a pass for this year b/c of other factors covering up whether or not it's a huge problem or just a small one. If it looks the same next year it could get interesting. Gotta figure the offense will take a step forward next year too though... could end up looking like the Colts of a few years ago.

I doubt we fire Slowik since we need to have some consistency to learn a scheme or its just a waste of time trying to pick up a new scheme. Part of the problem imo was with Slowik's gameplanning trying to "outsmart" the other team's coordinators. Switching back from 4-3 to 3-4 constantly I've never been a fan of, especially with undersized linemen. The past few weeks we've stuck to 4-3 for the most part with an occasional 3-4 but nothing like we saw before the bye week.
We were expecting this problem to be fixed or on the path to it when we drafted Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder to play opposite of Dumervil and Marcus Thomas to play DT which he is doing. There is 100% no reason to draft a player thats not on defense for atleast the first 3 rounds in the next draft. Our offense could use a RB or possibly a Center but we can find that later on in the draft if we're really set on it. Any position on defense really could be drafted to make an improvement; outside of DJ Williams, Dumervil, Champ.
100% agreed with you on the Colts, I was saying this is the pre-SB Colts with absolutely no run defense. When Colts cut Ed Johnson this year I would have liked the Broncos to give him a tryout but maybe that'll come this offseason.
Edit- I dont think any Bronco fan was seriously considering the team to be contenders this year in anyway, this is all a bonus imo. It's giving the young guys a chance to learn how to approach leading a division late in the season
Edit.2- For the defensive coordinator, for one reason and one reason only would I be up for a coaching change and thats for Gunther Cunningham. If for some reason KC let him go, I would love for him to come here and bring an old school attitude to this primadona defenseLast edited by av7; 11-25-2008, 09:08 PM.Aaron

Pro Bowl rankings so far - bit odd Rivers is behind Cutler by 3 spots, should be the other way around imo. Asomugha 3rd, definitely needs to be 1. I wish Clady would get considered but its a bit hard for a rookie on the line when he's doing a great job- dont hear or see anything about him.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Injury update:Injured defensive starters Champ Bailey, D.J. Williams and Nate Webster all practiced on a limited basis. Bailey has missed four games, Williams has missed three games and Webster has missed two games. Bailey appears to be the closest to playing Sunday at the New York Jets. He was been practicing lightly for a couple of weeks.
Williams and Webster may need more time but the fact that they are on the field is a good sign. Starting safety Marlon McCree did not practice and likely will miss his fourth straight game this week with an ankle injury. Backup running back Selvin Young was limited in practice with a groin injury. He missed six games.Aaron

With your comment about D-Coordinator...I couldn't agree more. Our main problem is just that.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Hopefully Hillis just got hit in the nuts and its not a groin strain.
Cutler had his typical bad decision rolling out of the pocket and throwing off his back foot into the endzone.. riverboat gambler. Oline yet again does an outstanding job on pass protection, Cutler has all day.
Playing KC this weekend, lets hope we dont overlook them for the next road warrior trip, 4 games left and every single one is important.
8-8 guess might not hold up now.Aaron

I made a comment during the game to the fact of how many times Cutler was throwing off his back leg. He has a bad habit of doing that. However, with the elements, he had a great game. I think the Jets did Cutler a favor today; they took a page out of the Bronco gameplan and decided not to put a pass rush on at all.
The postseason scares the bejessus out of me from a Broncos' success standpoint, but is exciting from a fan's. Pittsburgh has the defense, Indianapolis is getting hot, Baltimore has the defense but playing a little offense, and then Tennessee. With the Broncos getting the free pass if they hold on to the division, there will be a good team not making the playoffs.Comment

The way he was grasping the boys, it did look like he got whapped in the old sack(fingers crossed). When he came off the field he squatted.

Peyton Hillis, are you thinking he's 2009 starter at RB? Having him in the backfield has potentially saved a draft pick going towards a running back and it'll go towards someone on defense nowfrom me if that happens.
Forgot about Eddie Royal, setting Bronco rookie recieving records. Matt Ryan will win ROTY but Eddie Royal deserves alot of consideration seeing as how no one (myself included) thought he'd be a WR2 and a threat on top of it instead of just a returner. 63 catches, 657yds, 5 tdsAaron

The postseason, if we make it, I'm looking at it as a bonus and a stepping stone for our guys to use next season. Who knows though, maybe DJ and Champ bring some energy to the defense and they step up late like the Colts did.

Hillis as starting rb is alright by me. Of course the other 17 rbs that were injured this year will be back back in the mix, so I don't see why they would use a pick on a rb anyway.
Eddie Royal has quietly become a star. He has installed an excitement into the punt return that we haven't seen since Rick Upchurch. He is though one heck of a receiver. He is getting quite the education on the grind of the NFL. He is pretty banged up and is at that wall. I see him getting better and better as the years go by.
I think the MVP of this team is the offensive line. They have kept Cutler clean all season and have allowed the running game to be effective (when needed). The holding call that nullified Hillis' td was rare. They don't committ penalties and they do their job.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
For our RB's, I don't trust any of them to stay healthy. We have 2 that have the injury bug stalking them. I'm sure there will be plenty of undrafted guys who aren't injury prone.
Of all the teams we may play in the playoffs, I prefer the Jets. Colts could play with 5 guys on the field and I still would pick them to win
Magic number: 2 wins. Or a win against KC and SD loss.Last edited by av7; 12-01-2008, 12:42 PM.Aaron

Mike Shanahan interview [http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest]
On what FB Peyton Hillis injured during the game
"I think he was hurt all over. Hips, shoulders, I think he was just sore. I don't think it is anything that is real serious but he is quite sore today."
I'm actually looking forward to a Raider game. I have a feeling Raiders will bring it hard and heavy on Thursday. Hopefully they win and Sunday will possibly be awesome- first game to Invesco and they clinch the division. And it's looking like it'll be a nice day in the 50's for Sunday

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Champ has a groin tear so that takes time to heal or you do what Selvin Young does- come back too early and he's sitting out more than he needed to. Shanahan knows whats going on, Champ will be back for the playoff runAaron
