    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

On behalf of a displaced Bronco fan, could the local fans (arvbas and others) please keep us updated on the local chat as far as the hc search goes.

I keep up as best I can but I am limited to the Post, the Rocky Mountain news and ESPN. I would love to hear incite on the situation as it goes on.

Personally, my vote is for Spagnuolo.

McDaniels is not who I want leading this team. OC sure, HC no. Patriot coordinators dont really have a stunning track record I'd want to gamble on.

Spagnuolo, Frazier and Morris are the 3 that come up every day about being the next coach. Jason Garrett comes up but its about why he didnt take a job last year and now he's wanting one this year when he has found out that he's not guaranteed to succeed Wade. Everyone appears to be on board that we need a defensive-minded coach to fix the trainwreck on defense. Raheem Morris has been mentioned in the past couple of days as one of the brighter guys in football that could be the next big thing.

It's even been thrown out there that maybe we trade Champ for some more draft picks and to get him onto a contender.

http://www.fm1043thefan.com/home.cfm They actually do a Online Listen, worth a shot to see if it works (half the time the streams never do). 'The Sports Guys' until "The Night Guys" is what I listen to (1pm into the evening)

Leslie Frazier will be interviewing today. Supposedly we have a 7th coming later this week? Spagnuolo, McDaniel, Dennison, Morris, Frazier, Garrett so far have interviewed

Tom Nalen is expected to announce his retirement sometime soon.

Sports Guys are making me a little nervous with their thoughts on Pat Bowlen and who he hires. McDaniels comes up because he's young, 'wiz' with the offense, and can be around here for a long time. We need to retool the defense so hopefully Bowlen doesnt get blinded by the potential of having a highpower offense, leaving us with piss poor defense.

Atleast Bowlen is interviewing anyone he can get. Hopefully end of January we have a new coach and Slowik is far, far away.

So, it's either Morris who comes from the Kiffen tree, or Spagnuolo who comes from the Jim Johnson tree.

Really it could be anyone, remember Tomlin came out of no where for the Steelers when everyone thought it would be Whisenhunt or Russ Grimm

Dennison and Garrett would be the 2 current long shots imo, with everyone else relatively close in the race.

Champ Bailey had elbow surgery today after he dislocated it in the Charger game.

The Fan mentioned Broncos are done interviewing for the HC position, 7 candidates are:

Spag, Frazier, Morris, and McDaniels but its too hard to tell.

Any of the candidates have a possible con. Spag's possible pricetag and still in the playoffs, McDaniels is the wrong coach for what we need fixed, Morris hasnt been given the chance to take a main role for a team. Frazier however has headcoaching experience. Do we really think age will make a huge influence on Bowlen?

Heres an interesting DC choice, Rod Marinelli. I dont think he'll sniff another HC job for awhile and he was part of a tough TB defense.

http://www.milehighsports.com/daily_january_8.php About the candidates and what to expect. I wouldn't mind seeing the Giants lose just to see if Spags is our guy but I want to watch his defense. Unless Bowlen loves the guy, I dont see him waiting a potential month

The Broncos will not send a draft pick to the New York Jets after defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson played in roughly 50 percent of the defensive snaps last season, well below the 65 percent threshold that would have triggered a trade.

The Broncos had acquired Robertson last April in return for a conditional draft pick based on playing time. One condition was if Robertson played in less than 65 percent of the defensive snaps, the Broncos didn't have to compensate the Jets.

For now, the Broncos have nine picks in the 2009 draft — one in each of the seven rounds, plus an extra fifth-round pick from Seattle acquired in a trade for Keary Colbert and an extra seventh-rounder from Atlanta for Domonique Foxworth.

The Broncos could get higher than a seventh-round pick from Atlanta if Foxworth re-signs with the Falcons. An unrestricted free agent, Foxworth and the Falcons have opened preliminary negotiations on a new deal.

Spag was the mind behind the defense that stopped the greatest offense to ever play.

McDaniels getting a possible 2nd interview, thoughts?

Kind of annoyed to think we fired Shanahan (who we owe around $7M) to only bring in a young offensive minded coach. Not sure what the thought process is anymore.

Lets hope the Giants lose today by some special team return for a TD and Spagnuolo can get his real interview done.

                              Edit- http://www.milehighreport.com/2009/1...os-list-trimme

Mike Klis is reporting that the Broncos brain trust has trimmed thier candidate list to 5 and are hoping to gain a consensus on a top 1 or 2 with hopes of making an offer this weekend.

According to Klis, Todd Bowles and Rick Dennison are considered "longshots". That leaves Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo, Cowboys OC Jason Garrett, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Buccaneers DC Raheem Morris and Vikings DC Leslie Frazier.

Frazier appears to be getting a long look as well.

None of this is really 'news' per se, since we talked earlier this week about the possibility that the Broncos would make an offer is they really were blown away by one of the candidates.

Also, it should be little surprise that Dennison and Bowles are likely not in the running.

Now, across the 'street', Jeff Legwold is reporting that the Broncos are still likely to have a second wave of interviews, starting as early as Monday. The cast od characters is the same, but to Legwold, the sense of urgency is a bit different in terms of when to expect an offer.

Keep it here all weekend, Broncos Fans, as word of an offer, or a new Head Coach could come any day.

When scouts look at players, they are always trying to find the balance between how much credence to give to a workout - knowing it will always take a certain level of athleticism to survive in the league - and how much to give to the body of work.

This is where the Broncos are - trying to decide where to put the interview in the whole picture, where it fits alongside someone's body of work.

For example, Morris' personality is electric, as one general manager who knows him put it, and he is on the fast track to be somebody's head coach sooner rather than later. But right now, he's only 32 and was just named a coordinator last month.

Somebody such as Frazier, for example, might not be the glamour pick in some people's eyes, but he obviously was exceedingly well-prepared, having studied the Broncos plenty before he arrived, as did Garrett.

With a guy such as McDaniels, also 32, who teams say interviews very well and certainly has plenty to see on a championship resume, the issue is, he comes from a highly successful, yet also highly technocratic, football society in the Patriots. Players and front-office people who have spent time there have described it as a rather joyless pursuit of trophies.

The official source for NFL news, video highlights, fantasy football, game-day coverage, schedules, stats, scores and more.

At this time last week, in this space, it was suggested that New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the leading candidate for the Broncos head coaching job. The point is still valid, only now it’s stronger.

Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis spent five and a half hours in Massachusetts on Thursday night, conducting a second interview with McDaniels in which he was said to be just as impressive as he was in his first meeting with a full contingent of Denver officials.

Now there is a growing concern in Foxboro, Mass., that the Patriots are on the verge of losing their offensive coordinator, the man who is in charge of the offense and helped elevate the play of quarterbacks Tom Brady and Matt Cassel.

Though Denver refuses to say anything, it clearly has McDaniels in its list of a select few finalists. The others are thought to be Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Buccaneers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

But Denver has been so busy this week that is is possible, even likely, that it will make its move as early as Monday and introduce the next coach of the Broncos early this week.

The Broncos also have made it clear that, even though their defense is in disrepair, they want to hire the best head coach, even if he doesn’t come from the defensive side of the football.
