Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
It's stupifying that they could be that unaware of the deadline to be 7 minutes late filing papers. In the meantime Freeney was visiting the Patriots who would be more than happy to stick it to us anyway. That being said they would probably just sign Doom now anyway.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I would think with the cap hit inevitable the odds of Dumervil being signed at an even lower rate is slim. He'll end up a Patriot more than likely and we'll sign Freeney. If for some reason we don't act in time,Abraham and Osi Umenyora are also options.
McGahee will likely be cut as well as Moreno and we'll draft a rb but there really isn't one that stands out as being special so it's a crapshoot.Comment

McGahee and Moreno cut? I'm not so sure about that. This year's draft isn't the greatest. You certainly don't cut McGahee, with what he has done.
I can see Moreno in a camp battle if we draft someone like Lacy. But it wouldn't shock me in the least if we go into the season with McGahee, Moreno, and Hillman if we don't draft a RB high. With the WR set we have now, pass-blocking might be more important in a RB.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Moreno has had two knee surgeries now in the last two years He did well down the stretch but the that's the kiss of death.I wouldn't mind just keeping McGahee and like you said probably drafting Lacy, which I've seen rumored ,but I've seen reliable sources that seems to think the writing is on the wall for McGahee being cut just before or after the draft with a 2.5 mil non-guaranteed contract for this year.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I don't think resigning him is possible because of that. There is 5M in dead money out there now. Resigning him would put them right back where they were to begin with (the 12M that he was owed if he was on the roster at 2pm), maybe even worse.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
There has been talk that Denver could write up a new Dumervil contract which covers the cap hit of about 5M... sign him this year for 3.5M then make up the rest in 2014 and 2015. However, I don't see Denver doing this as they were only going to sign him for 1 year, 8M deal. They would probably trade or cut him next year anyways.
I say just cut Doom loose and try to get Freeney or Osi (probably Osi as he will be cheaper) on a new1 year deal, and use their #1 draft pick on a first tier DE. They will have a crack at a decent RB with their 2nd pick. All is not lost.
The restructured contract was still too rich for my blood on Doom. Remember, Doom has already been paid 42M the past 3 years with 20.5 sacks and playing only half of those 3 years. He is not reliable or worth the money.Comment
