You guys are probably right about Lacy being Denver's 1st pick; although, I like the idea of targeting a top tier Defensive player 1st...beit a DE, DL,or LB. I have a feeling that Lacy will be there for Denver in the second round if they choose to move up. They may also move back inthe 1st round for an extra 4th pick. That would better enable them to move up inthe second.

For one, the Carson Palmer fiasco....and how they are trying to fix it with one-game wonder Matt Flynn. Throw in the Tracy Porter signing and it's all too familiar when it comes to Raider mentality. They don't have any money to spend and yet they keep trying to put bandaids on their shortcomings.
I like having them in the division.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I can see that. I think the Raiders are in a tight situation for now. They're paying for their past mistakes in several ways (draft picks and cap). Combine that with the reputation for being recent perennial losers, and I'd imagine it's not easy to attract free agents to the club. And on top of that, they can't offer much money.
Matt Flynn is certainly an unproven, but I'm not sure what else they can do. There isn't another QB on the market that would be a serious upgrade from Carson Palmer. And no team is really going to trade away a QB that has potential, not even Washington. This year's draft is mediocre for QBs, so there's no sense in selling the farm to try to trade up. Matt Flynn at least as potential.
If you know you're going to suck anyways, might as well find out if Flynn is worthy or not. Then next year, when they have some $60m off their cap, they can begin to sign some players and draft some kids. Even then, it'll take time for the Raiders to get back into competitive shape. For now, they're left with taking risks on rehabbing players who are willing to sign for less.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I agree with that. Maybe what they are doing will work, but I hope not. I just find it rather amusing watching everything constantly blow up in their face. I'm still astounded at mortgaging a couple of years just to sign Carson Palmer. Especially when they had Jason Campbell (who wasn't healthy at the time), who you could argue is at or about the same level.
They only signed Flynn to a 2-year deal, so I guess that's somewhat of a smart move. I just don't know, though. He got beat out by a rookie in camp last year. We all know who that rookie was and how that ended up, but still... my money is on Flynn ending up in a discarded pile of Raider band-aids that is growing rather large.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
The Raiders also took a chance on Pryor 2 years ago. So they currently have a 2nd and a 3rd string QB competing for the starting job. They will most likely take a QB in the second round... taking a QB any sooner will just prove that the new regime is no better than Al Davis.
Yes, the Raiders have been in cap trouble for a while, but so have the Cowboys and Redskins. At least those teams are competitive. The Raiders are a sad organization who desperately needs a QB and a competent owner/GM.
I agree that Flynn has upside, but I am not sure how any QB is supposed to succeed in Oakland... poor offensive line and they jettisoned 2 receivers.
Meh... Porter is not an upgrade to Michael Huff. And I too am glad that they reside in the AFC WEST.Last edited by TRC; 04-05-2013, 10:06 AM.Comment

The poisonous mentality of Al Davis is taking time to purge. His decisions haunt that team. This year, they've had to cut people just to get under the cap. Improving your team is hard enough, then you have to cut players just to make the cap. And oh yeah, they sucked anyways.
Flynn is screwed, by the way. It's like the Browns, where rookie QBs go to die.
I wish the Raiders were better. Same with the Chiefs. Playing these guys might mean easy wins, but they won't prepare the Broncos for the post season. I want a competitive AFC West.Last edited by Broncos86; 04-05-2013, 08:02 PM.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Agreed. It is always better for Denver when the rest of the division is competitive. I remember the 80's when the Broncos/Raiders games always came down to the final fieldgoal...Chris Bahr vs Rich Karlis... no matter which team was better that particular year. Unfortunately, Karlis had a propensity for smacking the goal post. :-)
However, I would be lying if I said that I don't enjoy watching the Raiders suck!Last edited by TRC; 04-07-2013, 07:16 PM.Comment

It's like hating the Redwings these days. Avs-Wings games haven't meant anything in 10 years. Rivalries are only fun when there is something on the line. I hate the Patriots more than the Raiders because Broncos-Patriots games have meant so much more.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
The Patriots are a well-run organization that have one of the best coaches of all time. My dislike for them is due to their longevity of success, but I also respect them. Denver's addition of Manning has also added to the Bronco-Patriot rivalry. I look forward to that game more than any other all season.Comment
