    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

In cold weather, the ball becomes hard and slick. It's ripe for fumbles, and we saw it. Fumbles don't equate to going ultra conservative. In fact, the Broncos' game plan never changed. What changed were turnovers. Let's not forget that the Patriots put themselves in the hole early on. 17 points in the first half came from fumbles on the Patriots' side of the field.

What you saw out of the Broncos was a game plan designed around keeping Tom Brady off the field. I think the game plan was sound, and I liked how we approached it. The Broncos had over 400 yards of offense in total, including 280 on the ground. Moreno ran the ball for 224 yards, and averaged 6.1 yards per carry! The Broncos executed a fine offensive strategy. But bad turnovers cost the Broncos the game, just as it almost cost the Patriots the game.

Montee Ball has fumble issues, there is no doubt about that. But on the flip side, Moreno is a stud for us right now. Don't forget, he's only 26 years old. I didn't mind the running game, as I thought throwing into a 20 MPH wind would be stupid. Peyton doesn't throw a hard pass; a lot of his throws are timed touch passes. That's tough in a cold wind like that.

Also, Carnal: let's bear in mind that the only running back to fumble was Montee Ball. Ball carried 7 times. Moreno never fumbled the ball, so the idea that the RBs fumbled because they were beat up isn't accurate. Also, Carnal, I'm tired of your defeatist attitude. You've come into this thread, and the other Broncos game threads, and spewed this anti-Manning junk all season. The Broncos are still 9-2. The game plan was sound. If you want to discuss in this thread, get off this BS attitude towards the coaches, Manning, and the team. I'm not going to sit here and listen to you spew forth a bunch of junk, especially when it's poorly thought out. We've lost a total of two close games. You're being a drama queen, and I'm sick of the childish whining.

In the end, football can be a game that's decided on a bad bounce. If the ball takes a different bounce and doesn't hit Carter, we might be sitting here talking about how Manning led the charge once more and how Brady and Co. were snake-bitten by fumbles. As it happens, the bounce went the wrong way for us. Weather games like this, it can happen. A slip here, a bad bounce there, and you lose. It doesn't mean you're better or worse, it just means you lost. I knew, before this game even started that funky stuff was going to happen, because that's just what happens when the elements play a major role. The cold alone can make the ball slick and hard, then you add in a frigid 20 MPH head wind? It took 15 - 20 yards off of Prater's kickoffs.

This is a game where you just have to understand that we didn't get the breaks we needed. The game plan looked good offensively. On defense, you just have to hope for turnovers against Tom Brady, and we got them. So IMO, the defense did all that it could. He's Tom Brady! He'll make the best defense in the league look terrible. So for us to get 17 points off turnovers is a bonus.

The disconcerting aspect is that Montee Ball hasn't solved his fumbling issues. We now have two young RBs with fumbling issues, and one RB who is absolutely willing our running game forwards. Montee Ball got his chance because Ronnie Hillman fumbled it away. CJ Anderson now has the same opportunity. If Moreno says one thing to Anderson, I hope it's to protect the ball. You can see just how important it is to Moreno. I think he might've been able to stiff-arm a guy and go for the TD on several of his big runs, but he made the smart play and covered the ball up.

Unfortunately, Moreno is probably out for a game or two due to his ankle injury. Moreno has become this team's workhorse, and it's going to hurt not having him if he happens to miss some time.

What really hurt Denver last night was losing DRC. I don't fault him for diving for the ball at the end of the half, but it's too bad because it was going to fall harmlessly to turf. Brady picked on Webster all second half. I would have rather have seen Carter in there instead, as he has more experience. Carter has somehow played himself deep onto the bench, and it was unfortunate what happened to him at the end of the game. Hopefully DRC's shoulder isn't going to keep him out of next week's game. If it is, then it's time for Bailey to step in.

It sucks to lose a game after being up 24-0. The only way they were going to lose was if they made mistakes...and they did, just like it was NE's mistakes in the first place that helped get them that 24-0 lead. Even though they lost, that last TD drive to tie was impressive. They stopped the bleeding on the road where everything had turned against them in weather conditions that were extreme.

That was a tough loss, but Denver still controls their own destiny. I think last night's game will serve them well moving forward. Beat the Chiefs, and all is right again.

        Well said, well said.

HUGE break for the Broncos, as Moreno's ankle is merely bruised and he's day to day. We'll also be getting Bailey back this week, and DRC isn't seriously hurt either. We dodged some bullets.

Moreno is just monumentally huge for us right now. Without him, our offense is completely different. I love his attitude, I love his work ethic, I love how versatile he is. The kid deserves all the success in the world.

Very good news that the injuries to Moreno and DRC aren't serious. Hopefully both will be on the field against KC.

It's Tuesday, and the loss is stinging a little less.

Well, pack it up boys…no way Denver can win with a mentally weak QB. Might as well not even play out the rest of the schedule.

Yea good news about DRC and Moreno.

I was one of the biggest supporters of cutting Moreno in the Off Season but he has proved me wrong. I love the way he he started to run angry this season.

I was down on Moreno big time. Especially following his 'sauced' incident.

I might be wrong, but I believe the last time he fumbled was against Atlanta last year. I know he is getting over-worked and he has a history littered with injuries, but I hate seeing him leave the field. I love his attitude and high energy. Need him Sunday.

Bad news.....Vickerson is out for the season. Time for Williams to step up.

Not to toot my own horn (toot toot!) but I've always known/said Moreno has the talent to do these things. His only issue is getting injured. Now, this latest one was a matter of having someone land directly on him. Bruises happen. But I still worry that we're asking too much of him, but our backup RBs haven't exactly given much reason to trust them. I sincerely hope CJ Anderson is up to the task, because I worry about Montee Ball carrying the load.

I hear ya, his talent was always there but I think it was more than just injuries for Moreno - at least in my eyes and many of those who were ready to give up on him. In his first three years, he battled with holding onto the ball and I thought he didn't run that hard at times. He was quick to go down after initial contact and he wouldn't fight for those extra yards that he is getting now.

Bronco fans everywhere are glad he's finally playing up to his potential.

Hopefully Moreno is ready Sunday. Ball might be able to carry the load in his absence, but it's the ball that I am worried about.

Moreno was always behind because of his injuries. He hurt his hamstring in preseason of his rookie year. Ever since then, he has spent significant time rehabbing something. It's hard to get practice time on the field, learning your keys and reads, when you're stuck in the gym. I think that adversity really fortified Knowshon's character, and I think nearly losing his job gave him perspective to really focus on little things like ball protection.

This next game, I'm hoping Anderson has a break out game and shows he can be the guy. I've already had enough of Montee Ball, regardless of his talent.

I am concerned that they would try to re-introduce Hillman before giving CJ a legitimate shot.
