That leads to number two: Promoting from within is better for morale and better than saying we have more faith in bringing in an older recycled guy that I used to coach with.

That is my opinion, and again, we shall see.
Good point on the promoting someone from within the staff. If McDaniels didn't think Martindale was capable of the job, doubt he would get the bump then. I wonder how much of a role Martindale played in transitioning Dumervil to OLB while Nolan was here?

Its just weird having a guy leading the defense and no one knows what to expect. I hope we dont see a Slowik Cover 2 style... please no.

LOL, A, you're going to need to seek out counselling over Slowik Funny story, I have a friend from high school that I am still close with. She happened to marry a guy that was a trainer for the Broncos for a few years, through the SB years and a few years beyond. He has since opened his own training facility. Anyway, Bob Slowik's daughter works for him. When my friend told me this, I chuckled thinking how you would wonder how the spawn seed of satan Slowik could have procreated, lol.

Remember this name, Mike Iupati, 6-5 325 guard out of Idaho. I watched him in the Humanitarian Bowl, a real beast. He is impressing so far at the Senior Bowl. For a guard, he will be a first rounder and immediate starter. Just saying. Wonder if he could slip to the 2nd for the Broncos to snag?

As long as she doesn't end up on the Broncos staff we should be good. I feel horrible for all the Redskins fans not knowing what they're going to step into if Shanahan (not sure if he hasnt already) brings Slowik in. Thats like the death penalty to a defense.

I'm guilty of not paying attention to any college games this year. No clue about any of the guys coming in other than seeing some bowl game stuff.

Days are counting down till Marshall is no longer here

          Per Denver Post

Because Marshall is a restricted free agent, the Broncos are expected to go through the exercise of tendering him a contract. But that tender will only serve as a mechanism to execute a deal with another club. Baltimore, Miami, Seattle, Chicago, Cleveland (how about Marshall for Brady Quinn?) and maybe the New York Jets are among the teams that may benefit most from acquiring a top-shelf receiver.
Brady Quinn.. no thanks, do not want, ever.

Going to be interesting how this shakes out. Maybe we'll all be surprised and somehow Marshall will be here.

For those who didn't see it Marshall had a curious interview on the sideline after scoring his touchdown tonight:

            (Paraphrased)
Asked about how the season ended and his future:

"I love the city of Denver. I started my career there and would love to finish it there."

Could have been tongue and cheek but you never know.

He has had a tumultuous couple seasons, and I think you guys will disagree with me but I would love to see him back in Denver.

That said, I don't think it would be the end of the world if he were gone either.

I totally respect this small group of Broncos Boys here at this thread; so, with that said and with all due respect, if the Broncos could get a Cleveland 1st and Brady Quinn, I would be really excited. I still think if Quinn is put in the right system and given the right coaching that he could be a good QB. That's just my opinion.

And, if Marshall were to end up in Denver, that's good too. This team just can't go through another season with the turmoil that he creates. Just saying.

Regardless, we thought last year's offseason was exciting, I think this one has the potential to top it.

There's no question I would love to have Marshall the player on the field. The guy off the field I can do without. I was hoping the season would play out, no issues would come up and it did for the most part. Honestly, the injury debate shouldn't be enough for McDaniels to simply ship him off. Marshall seems to be pulling in the same direction as the rest of the team, just the extra curricular crap I can deal without

I'm a little nervous about the draft considering the choices we made last year and how exactly they turned out. Free agency definitely the highlight for me last year.

As for Quinn, I think we're all fine having our opinions here. No one will bash em thats for sure. Who knows, Quinn could come in and fit what McDaniels wants. His accuracy, scares me almost as bad as the thought of Slowik being on the staff.

There's alot of talk at this point that the Broncos wont get what they're looking for with a trade involving Marshall, does that translate into a 1st round pick not being on the table for him?

                  With regards to Quinn:

I definitely agree that with a better supporting cast, who knows what he could do and it might be worth it to give him a shot. And to add to that, a little competition never hurts.

That said, I would not want to see him as the centerpiece in a deal for Marshall, nor would I want to see him brought in and Orton pushed out. I would rather it be picks that could be used where needed (hopefully).

In a perfect situation, this would be my vote as well (a trade with Quinn and a first rounder as the centerpiece #2). Then go the heck after defense!

I think a number 1 choice has to be part of the compensation package if another team signs Marshall if I have understood it correctly, as well as a couple of other choices.

Considering everything around Marshall, I'd be shocked if Denver gets a first rounder for him... let alone a first rounder and more. I'd actually be happy with him in Baltimore but not if it costs a first rounder.

How do you know the appropriate compensation for a restricted free agent?

                        No Pick Compensation

The player's original team maintains the First Refusal Right if a team offers a one year deal of $540,000.

                        Original Draft Round Compensation

The player's original team maintains the Right of First Refusal and Draft Selection at the Players Original Draft Round (from the team with which he signs) if a team offers a one year deal of $1,001,000.

                        First Round Compensation

The player's original team maintains the Right of First Refusal and First Round Draft Selection (from the team with which he signs) if a team offers a one year deal of $2,181,000.

                        First & Third Round Compensation

The player's original team maintains the Right of First Refusal and First Round Draft Selection and Third Round Draft Selection (both from the team with which he signs) if a team offers a one year deal of $2,908,000.

                        Compensation Breakdown

                        $540,000-$1,000,999: None
                        $1,001,000-$2,180,999: Original Draft Round
                        $2,181,000-$2,907,999: First Round
                        $2,908,000+: First & Third Round
Now I won't even attempt to admit that I know what I am talking about, but Marshall is a restricted free agent. If another teams signs him, the Broncos could get as much as a first and a third. I don't know if I am understanding this correctly. That's why I am wondering why trade talks would even take place.

I believe trade talk happens when teams aren't willing to pick him up which would give us the 1st and 3rd compensation.

Yeah, but I do believe someone will pick him up. People spouting, "We'll take him for you." Well, here you go, have at him. A first and third would suffice.

I don't know who's said "We'll take him for you." He's a hellofa player so I'm sure many people would love to have him on their team, but it's not that easy (as you laid out). I personally don't want him for a 1st and a 3rd. The trade talks occur in the negotiations which could create a sign and trade situation. I believe that happens more often than not with restricted free agents.

The talk of many people on boards in general spouting off wanting to take such a talent off our hands pisses me off, I shouldn't let comments get under my skin easily. When a fan says this, of course they don't realize how easy it is. If a team is willing to give a 1st and 3rd for a cancer, have at it.
