90% of pro athletes are selfish/cocky in many ways when compared to normal standards. It's part of the drive and self confidence that makes them successful at such a high level. All I know is RGIII JUST became a lock to be a Skins today and has already reached out to the community many times, gone overboard with signings and interviews, and has said all the right things about eventually leading a team. If he appeared selfish in those areas (see Bryce Harper) then I'd be more worried.

Re: Washington Redskins Official Thread
I feel like there is a major media bias towards the Redskins. Perhaps, I am paranoid but there is always a negative connotation presented with anything Redskins recently. Might have something to do with Dan Snyder suing a newspaper, maybe its the homer in me. I mean if a media darling made the trade to move up to #2 I doubt as many would've killed the trade. I'm sure that if RGIII was going to Indy people would be saying what wwharton did about all athletes.Moderator

You know I like the Skins and TRY to be objective about everything including with my team... and I was against trading up for RGIII initially. My reason was he seemed to all of a sudden be the flavor of the month, and while he obviously has a ton of raw talent, I didn't have faith in the Shanny's molding him properly. After hearing him talk a bit, I've changed my tune on that. And hearing/seeing him take to DC long before it was a lock he was heading there, and give great interviews, I'm behind him even more.
Anyway, I bring that up bc that's been the thing with the Skins. They make a big play that ends up being great on the surface, and then you see all the issues with it when you pull back the cover. It could be Big Al who wasted money and talent... or Campbell who probably was wasted by those around him. There's just always something to screw up what seems like a franchise changing move. So I wouldn't blame anyone for assuming that this will some how blow up also, and just looking for reasons why it might. I haven't found any as of yet but I'm not surprised they're looking.Comment

When I think of drive, I think of players who aren't caught up in the off field BS. Peyton Manning comes to mind.
Speaking of Bryce Harper, who knows how his ego will handle the very likely schooling he'll receive facing big league pitchers. At least he doesn't seem overly concerned with his socks.May 6, 1998: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K
Thanks to all that helped with the Baltimore Orioles roster, and to N51_rob for making me an OS premium member.

RGIII comes off as a pretty cool guy in the media from what I have seen thus far. I don't know why people are worried about his personality.

Big difference between drive and being wrapped up in pointless things like the color of your socks. I just get a bad vibe from the guy, seems self-absorbed.

The problem is those two teams GIVE the Media a reason to criticize them. Remember, it was only 6-7 years ago when the Wizards were the "team on the rise" in the East and within 3 years they become the one of the jokes of the league. Almost the same with the Skins.#RespectTheCultureComment
