Lol at that garbage newspaper the Daily News.

It was the latest example of an inexperienced general manager’s run through free agency

That was in response to Idzik losing out to the Giants on Rodgers-Cromartie.

Inexperienced? The same guy who built the champion Seahawks?

Have Mehta tell it and Idzik was just a finance guy with the Seahawks.

Am I missing something but on Day 1 when Idzik got here, he said he was going to build through the draft. But yet Jets media folks and fans are up in arms.

I remember celebrating the Tannenbaum FA periods doing backflips when we were giving $50M to Holmes, giving Pace big money, etc.

        Let Idzik cook.

He said he's building through the draft and every time I look up, he's at a college team's Pro day. That's what he believes in so let it play out.

Exactly. Seems like Idzik is building the way he said he would.

I rather a GM that draws a line in the sand than one that spends his team into cap problems.

That same article said Idzik made a lateral move at RT and used it as an example of how he's messing up.

But a lateral move means the quality is the same. And didn't we just replace Howard with someone at half the price (I can't remember the terms). So isn't that showing some intelligence?

Yeah, Giacomini's deal is 4 years $18 million, with $7 million guaranteed. Howard's is 5 years $30 million with $11.8 million guaranteed.

I would have liked having DRC, but 5 years $35 million is a little much for him comparing to what other DB's have gotten. Let the Giants overpay for him.

Agreed with everybody here, I like what Idzik is doing and he needs to be given time. Just because we have capspace does not mean we need to throw big money at every position of need. Keep building through the draft so we can add to the young guys we already have, and keep cap flexibility so we can keep our young guys together.

                Says it all:
Jetsfan80 started this thread in the JetNation forums.  It breaks down how Seattle put together their starting lineup.  I felt it was worth sharing, because it clearly illustrates the importance of the NFL draft.  Many Jets fans and beat reporters are saying John Idzik is sleeping at the wheel.  Loo

QB: Russell Wilson (3rd round pick)

RB: Marshawn Lynch (trade: 2011 4th round pick, 2012 conditional pick)

                WR: Doug Baldwin (UDFA)

WR: Percy Harvin (trade: 1st and 7th rounder)

                WR: Ricardo Lockette (UDFA)

TE: Zach Miller (Signed 2011 to 5-year deal)

LT: Russell Okung (Top 10 pick)

                LG: James Carpenter (1st rounder)

                C: Max Unger (2nd rounder)

                RG: JR Sweezy (7th rounder)

                RT: Michael Bowie (7th rounder)

                LDE: Michael Bennett (UDFA)

                DT: Brandon Mebane (3rd rounder)

DT: Tony McDaniel (UDFA, bounced between Jaguars and Dolphins, signed in 2013)

RDE: Cliff Avrill (Signed as RFA in 2011)

                OLB: Malcolm Smith (7th rounder)

                MLB: Bobby Wagner (2nd rounder)

                OLB: Bruce Irvin (1st rounder)

                CB: Richard Sherman (5th rounder)

                CB: Byron Maxwell (6th rounder)

                FS: Earl Thomas (1st rounder)

                SS: Kam Chancellor (5th rounder)

Of all Seattle’s starters on offense, only 1, Zach Miller, was a free agent signing. Much like the Jets traded a 4th rounder for Chris Ivory, the Seahawks did the same to get Marshawn Lynch. Harvin was a pickup via trade as well, but his health has prevented him from making any impact on a team that won the Super Bowl largely without him.

I feel if Idzik could get him in a 75% team friendly contract, Miles Austin is worth taking a risk on.

Re: Official New York Jets Thread

I for one am not "worried" about the CB situation.

It's clear as day Idzik wanted no part of Cromartie by not matching AZ's deal.

First of all, it looks like he's trying to build a culture in that locker room.
Secondly, I don't know if it was his hip or not, but Cro was our most consistently worst CB last year.

Milliner was bad because he didn't watch the ball in the first half of the season.

But Cro was absolutely getting burned down the field every week.

Did the Jets beat writers forget this?

There a kid out of Utah, Keith McGill. 6'3. Rangy. I'd love us to draft him. Watched some of him on YouTube yesterday.

Idzik's about having lasting success. Not just paying big names and having to scramble and re-work contracts every offseason.

                      Jets officially released Sanchez.

Then turned around and signed Michael Vick for one year $5 MM.

I'm all right with this. I think you make it a battle between him and Smith but Vick is a decent backup option if Smith struggles.

Plus you don't need to change the play book much with either option.

And I don't want us trading for DeSean. He needs to be a FA and come off of that contract he has.
