Re: EA Sports NHL 07 PSP - A quest for an update

Using this thread as a guide:

I found the offset values you need:

    hip
Graphic Offset (GO) 224 Palette Offset (PO) 4336 SIZE 128x32

    thigh
    GO 5392 PO 9504 size 64x64

    torso
    GO 10560 PO 26960 size 128x128

    helmet
    GO 28016 PO 36224 size 128x64

    sleeve
    GO 37280 PO 41392 size 128x32

    mask
    GO 42448 PO 42720 size 16x16

    lodmask (?)
    GO 42816 PO 43856 size 32x32

and there's more, but those are the main ones, I think.

Also, for the mask and after, I don't know what palette they're using. To be safe, I wouldn't change those things until you know where the palette is.

Re: EA Sports NHL 07 PSP - A quest for an update

First, open up Console Texture Explorer (CTE) and Game Graphic Studio (GGS).

Open up your file in CTE and use the values in the above posts to find the graphic you want. Make sure the values are correct or you're going to screw up your file.

Then click the Export button. A window will pop up, so just click Save. The file will be texture.tm2.

Go to GGS and open that same file. Then open the replacement graphic you've prepared. The texture.tm2 file should be in the bottom left corner, and the other one should be in the top.

Drag the replacement file on top of the texture file. If you get an error message, your replacement file is the wrong type of file, and you'll need to fix it. Usually the problem is the palette. The palette has to be 256 colours.

If you didn't get an error message, it should work.

Return to CTE and click Import. Your replacement graphic should appear.

            Click Save.

Proceed to the next graphic, or finish.

I've updated my tutorial. It should give you a little more help, even if it is just for NHL 07.

This seems like it would be useful, except I wasn't able to get the plugin to work.

EDIT: For rosters you can edit the tdb file with the madden db editor and import/export the csv.

ok thanks for the help. Im close i can uncompress msh file from inside viv file with ea graphics editor. I can find the texture with console texture explorer after this and successfully edit it with game graphic studio. Problem i have is how to re-compress before i add it back to viv file.

Very astute. Using Madden DB Editor is in fact one of the tools I am using. And the thread you mentioned was the thing that started me on my quest.

                    Great minds think alike?

For the roster, there is a tool called NHL View, which is specifically for the NHL series games. It's like the Madden editor, only more so. When EA was still making NHL PC games, there was a dedicated community of modders who made a lot of tools for people to use. I'm using most of those for my project. The problem was the PSP game has some significant differences, which made it necessary to find new ways to do things.

I don't know if it will help, but BIG GUI is good for compressing and uncompressing the files in the hockey games.

Were you able to make changes to the roster and load the changes?

Yes. It takes a bunch of steps, but it's possible. I'm in the middle of the long job of making a roster update.

Sorry but game is still crashing after recompiling jerseys.viv file with updated .msh using BIG GUI. Any idea? Do you use Rebuild function in BIG GUI after recompressing the textures file?

I use an old NHL PC mod tool called BH Import. I got it from a set of mod tools.

I have it mirrored on my google drive HERE

Extract all the files into the game's USRDIR and run BHImport. It's a batch file, and you'll probably see a lot of text scroll down in a window. That's what's supposed to happen.

Try it and let me know if it works or doesn't.

Indeed it takes a lot of time to update jerseys
