NEW VERSION OF THE EDITOR (APRIL 6, 2018)

This update corrects issues with the spreadsheet import and export functions.

    Bugs fixed:

    - Fixed a major bug where exporting to a spreadsheet failed if there were players on the rosters of created teams.
    - Fixed a bug where the user was not advised that an import had finished, unless there were errors to report.
    - When importing from a spreadsheet, a player will now correctly be skipped if another player with the same name already exists in the save file.

Thanks to WWEDX2007 for reporting the first bug.

Spreadsheet imports now, only one issue:

I get an error saying that 29 players were skipped for there not being enough PMK players and 3 players were skipped for there not being enough 2WY players.

Fine, I go into the game and make 29 PMKs and 3 2WYs, put it on the drive, re-convert the save to PS3. Re-import the spreadsheet and.....same error. what I am doing wrong here?

The editor will not erase roster players. That wouldn't make any sense as you would be randomly losing old players in order to gain new ones. Of course if your created players are in the free agents list or on a team, the editor will think they are players you want to keep.

When you import a spreadsheet, the editor only overwrites unused players it finds in the save file. What it's telling you is there aren't enough unused playmakers in the save file for the import to continue. If you want it to use your created players, you have to delete them first in the editor, then it will "see" them. Right-click them in the editor and choose "Delete." Then they'll be available to be overwritten.

One thing, though. If you change a player's type it will revert after one season. Even if you change it on the Create Player screen. There's a way around it but it's time-consuming. I explained this earlier in the thread. I'll just quote:

Same for other player types if you're missing other types.

I ended up making 29 hardcoded Playmakers and 3 hardcoded 2-Way forwards, everything is good now and transferred properly with no errors. It's not like I've never done something time consuming with an NHL 2K game before lol

Got some suggestions after getting everything up and running without issues.

First, will captaincies ever become something that can be edited in the editor? (some teams don't even have a captain and have all alternate captains, and some teams have more than 3 alternates)

Also, will PBP ever be something we can edit in the editor? For example, goaltender Fredrik Andersen for the Leafs has PBP matches for both his first and last names. but with slightly different spellings. do PBP numbers have to match the in-game name or is it something that's tied to something else? I feel like this could help more players be called by commentators.

The game is simply set up to always require one captain and to permit no more than three alternates. That's hard coded into the game and unlikely to be editable by anything that snowdrift could do.

If you're getting the Andersen thing from having used my roster, I did that on purpose because I couldn't care less how Andersen's name is spelled if it makes Bob Cole say "Anderson". Feel free to change it back to the proper spelling, if that's the case. I personally prefer it the other way and forgot to mention that in my roster post.

The PS2 NHL games were rigged in a different way (NHL 2K10 PS2 is set up so Roberto Luongo is a captain of the Canucks and NHL 2K6 PS2 had some teams with 4 or even 5 alternate captains) I get that this isn't PS2. But it's heavily derived from PS2 code.

Once I figured out spreadsheets I stopped using your rosters, sorry lol. But my idea in regards to PBP remains the same.

Well, totally fine of course. They're not even really my rosters. Snowdrift doesn't have a 360 and I just helped him confirm some tests to expand the usability of his editor. Along the way, I added those uniforms and he in turn added his free agents to it.
Molifox has now given me his trade deadline take on these rosters which I'll release later.

Bug Report(?): Players lose any kind of accents such as ' or - upon conversion from Xbox 360 to PS3 saves. or even upon spreadsheet import.

Question mark because I'm not sure if this is intended behavior of the program or not, I'm having to correct everyone's overall and PBP in-game and some players like Ekman-Larsson are missing the - and such.

Something I've noticed, probably not related to the editor but perhaps fixable by it?
If you go into any player and so much as change his jersey number, it rerates his overall. Usually cuts him down up to about 5 points. It also appears to mess up your lines.

Oh dammit, I better check Gibson on Anaheim then...He had a wrong jersey number and I didn't think his overall was any different.

I could make captaincy editable, but no clue how to hard-code it.

I know how to do it, but probably won't, as I'd have to hard-code hundreds of names one by one. However, there's a hack to get the game to pronounce a different name for a player from the one displayed. I'll try to get the editor to accommodate it, then I'll explain it.

My goal is to eventually fix this for all possible players in my roster. I already started... check out Anders Bjork (Boston), for example.

EDIT: Oh, about the other issues, thanks for the heads-up: I'll look into them.

Not sure if your fixes will apply to my game, as it's just your roster converted to a spreadsheet over a fresh 360 roster, and every player's name edited for PBP match/saved to update their in-game estimated overall.

And no problem, I'm glad I got this game and can help even if it's something small.

I can think of a few PBP hacks that could help

OTT F Matt Duchene ("Duchesne" PBP)
STL F Robby Fabbri ("Fabry" PBP)
TOR G Fredrik Andersen ("Anderson" PBP)

                                Suggestions:
                                - Any chance of making the drop-down of players when setting lines in alphabetical order by last name instead of by overall rating?
                                - Is there any way to have players NOT in a line be a different colour? A red, or a darker black or something?
                                - Is it possible to have the lines be editable on the same screen where we see the full roster?

Thanks, as always, for your work snowdrift.
