Re: ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox) 2018-19 Roster Development Thread

I've discovered a feature in FlyingFinn's ESPN NHL 2K5 Editor that I never knew about before. by right-clicking a team. you can modify their city, abbreviation, nickname and logo. therefore. the following changes will be reflected in the next update that adds LA's current roster:

    • The Anaheim Mighty Ducks now appear as the "Anaheim Ducks", complete with PBP to remove "Mighty".
    • The Phoenix Coyotes now appear as the "Arizona Coyotes", complete with "ARI" abbreviation.
    • The Buffalo Sabres now use their 1994 logo, which is near-identical to their real-life current logo.
    • The Los Angeles Kings now use their 1993 logo, which is similar in shape and color scheme to their current logo.
    • The Pittsburgh Penguins now use their 1975 logo, which is near-identical to their real-life current logo.
    • The Toronto Maple Leafs now use their 1951 logo, which is extremely similar to their current logo.
    • The Washington Capitals now use their 1975 logo, which is similar to their current logo.

There's also a feature that lets you modify team IDs. there's a few things I might experiment with. such as
    1. Changing a historic team to an active team so I could have more blank menufaces
    2. Switching out Atlanta for Winnipeg (Not realistic at all, but I'd like to see what happens)

Also, a lot of players have been modified to have more accurate positions. so the lines of basically every team I've shown so far have changed as a result.

I feel like a bit of a jerk for knowing this and not having mentioned it to you. I just figured it was a known thing. Oh well, enjoy. Rosters looking great so far.

Kings are finally finished, first post updated with them in it.

In addition to the aforementioned changes I've made to team logos, I've given Vegas the Germany national team logo as it's closer to their actual logo.

Max Domi was also moved to Montreal in this update.

There is apparently a Free Agent limit of 500 in ESPN NHL 2K5 but the game doesn't warn you about it.

In fact, the game still lets you cut skaters. I wonder what happens to them? FlyingFinn's editor doesn't let you cut anyone else after you reach 500. but the game does.

I made 3 more created teams and filled them with players which gave me about 120 skaters free from Free Agency. I hope I can reach the end of these rosters without issue.

Same thing with 2K8. The game doesn't warn you when you're about to lose players, but the editor will stop you when a roster or the FA list is full.

Nothing. They still exist in the save file. However, since there's no reference left to them on any roster, they become inaccessible within the game.

In the 2K8 editor you can retrieve them (Unused Players menu) but I don't see anything like that in the 2K5 editor.

This might come in handy when I gotta delete some players lol

One thing that would be great is, eventually maybe a script or batch file written by you that could remove everyone's menuface from the game like 2K8.

I'm not asking for a full blown editor or anything like that (Although it would be more reliable)

With how time consuming it is to work on this game (It takes me 5-6 days per team to clear a team's retired players and define replacements before posting them here) I can see why it didn't get an update for so long. That's what's gonna make it as big of an accomplishment as it will be when I finish it. I just wish it could be up to par with what can be done with NHL 2K8.

This includes stuff I haven't talked about such as some players having constantly changing face/skin tone each time you enter the menu. It makes it hard to get a proper likeness.

It will definitely not be taken for granted. It will be very much appreciated.

After 3-4 hours of work and editing, I am happy to announce that my (now) 2018-19 roster file for ESPN NHL 2K5 will include a schedule!

Everyone plays games on their proper days/times and fluff games where Vegas would've been (these can be a little random...did the best I could....tried to keep them intra-conference) and the All-Star game is there on January 26th, 2019.

Masterpiece. You're amazing. Never ending applause for you. That's perfect, because then if we replace Arizona with Vegas, then Vegas still plays a decent Western Conference schedule.

Tinpinalley, I want you to get the newest version of this file and cycle through the arenas before a match. I've included a few easter eggs.

Hahaha, just looked. I had a quick game with the Oilers and Bruins in my stadium. Only one slight hitch with the name is the typo. "TinPanAlley" rather than Tinpin, but whatever.

That will be fixed in the next update, I must've been thinking of the Stevie Ray Vaughn song.

There's also arenas featuring shoutouts to molifox and snowdrift.

I made a few skaters for Montreal before getting distracted by other games, I chose a good time to do so because a storm of trades are coming soon. once it all settles down and transactions are made I'll resume.
