I found your site a year ago and have been following progress since. I'm so glad you finally released it.


I'd love to make an editor or something to make NHL2K11 roster editing simpler or automated. I have also worked on a roster importer for NHL94 that can create a new roster for the PC version based on statistics. Never finished and released it though. Would be awesome to convert this to NHL2K11.



However I know nothing of Wii files or NHL2K11 internal structure.


It would be great if you would share what you know or point me in some direction where I could perhaps start digging.


The save files are encrypted right?
Do you know anything about save state files for the emulator? Perhaps I can binary edit those?
Generate AR codes? Where is a good place to learn about those?

So the actual roster files (.ROS) are not encrypted. They are saved on the folder on your HDD.

If you right-click the NHL 2k11 in the emulator, it should point you to the right folder with the roster.

I made a saves state system (that's the F5 and F8) so the game loads with all the Gecko and AR codes that we made over the years with One more try ( that's the guy I'm talking about in the introduction vid)
I think he knows nothing about the hockey but was so kind to help me find the codes I needed to change animations, motion model, camera etc. etc.

If you go to the Dolphin site, there is all the info you need. And people there are very smart, kind and always ready to help.

Here is the thread, how we met and how we progressed.
You can see the amount of work and time we put into that. Yeah, it is kinda scary haha.

Well another thing I am experiencing unless I turn down clock speed is that the mid zone runs at another framerate than the end zones. Is this purely hardware related? Do you know? Otherwise it would be nice with a 30fps code or something...

Fantastic! Congratulations on releasing the game. I’m on Mac, so doubtful I’ll be able to play this, but hopefully those that can will help make this project grow. Any luck reaching out to some of the old 2K devs?

Its because the code we added makes the benches animate even during the gameplay, where before there was just really ugly static 2d objects.
We also added the coach to the bench. All this needs little extra power from your CPU, when it gets the view.

Ok, because it acts a bit funny. End zones run slow at 60 fps, then when it comes to the mid zone gameplay speeds up due to it switching to 30fps...

On another note it struck me how many players that have retired in 7-8 years. Probably more than 80% of the entire roster need to be replaced. Also getting ages somewhat right will be a pain in the... lol

Would just like to congratulate you on the release, DJ NEO.

When you missed the initial September release date I got a bit worried (considering how many years this was in development) but you made it.

If we get updated rosters and graphics, this might be the ideal 2K hockey experience. You and your partner rebuilt this game's physics from scratch.

I have gone through cleaning teams up to Buffalo plus teams like Washington and Pittsburgh so far.
A large amount of players are now free agents playing in Europe. Would say so far each team has about 5 real players perhaps. And that is for both NHL and farm team...


My goal is to first clean the teams, which is simply make all possible current trades and mark each retired player by putting an x infront of their firstname and marking each fake player by putting a y infront of the firstname. Then I will probably save this file as some kind of a baseline.


After that we can start replacing fakes and retired players and here is where an editor or a way to fix ages would have been nice... Not decided really how to do the ages either since birthdate will be correct for original players so they will be younger and ages will not map 1 to 1 either...


Does anyone have any ideas on how to do the player ratings?
An excel file with NHL19 ratings or something like that would be nice to start from. Anyone know of one?

Great gameplay video. Easily best hockey on PC. Wish I had the hardware to run it full fps.

Great to know you know how to follow the direction haha.

Anw., before you copy the new version to your "Documents" folder make sure you deleted the old Dolphin folder from Documents.

It works for others, so must be something on your side.

Correct - you can't have two versions of this on the PC apparently. As soon as I moved the old game's folder out of the Documents folder the new one worked.

One thing I notice is when I edit players the game does not seem to load the textures so I cannot see their appearance. This might be frame skip related perhaps or does anyone else have this problem?
