I actually think the Black Knights is a solid name, but then I fear the color scheme.

I imagine the NHL will shy away from any gambling references.

Probably will be something like Rattlesnakes or Wranglers (Real. Comfortable. Jeans) if Black Knights doesn't stick.

    NFL - Buffalo Bills
    MLB - Cincinnati Reds

NHL radio said that Bettman has a lot of power over what the name and logo will look like.

I hope Black Knights still comes to fruition.
And I'm guessing that Vegas Gold is a given in the uniform colour scheme?
Black and Gold would look pretty sweet. Or Gold and Navy blue, similar to Notre Dame would look nice too.

      Spoiler

The owner's intention was name the team the Black Knights and have the same colour scheme as Army (gold, black, grey). My question all along has been: doesn't Army have any say in this? Pretty sure if the Blue Jackets tried to rename themselves the Buckeyes and go with a red/silver jersey that lawyers would get involved awfully fast.

I just saw that the organization bringing the NHL to LV is called Black Knight Sports & Entertainment. Well, that's awkward...

But the owner, Bill Foley, played shinny growing up and follows the sport. Already better then half the owners in the league. Lol

When I hear black as a primary color it's just like, great the jerseys are gonna be awful. But a black/gold could look good. I'm thinking Purdue, Vanderbilt, and New Orleans Saints shades. I don't wanna see another Islanders all black alternate type jersey. Ugh!

I like Rollers, Lights, Aces, Blackjacks. There's way better options than Black Knights. Couldn't take too much to come up with something better.

AHL instituting some new rules for this season:

                  - Icing. Can't take time-out when icing the puck.
                  - Fighting. After 10 fights, players are suspended one game up to 14 fights where it becomes an auto 2-game suspension for every fight.
(But fights where an instigator penalty is assessed wont' count against a total as they see this as a way to 'keep players honest').
Players who enter into a fight prior to, at, or immediately following the drop of the puck for a faceoff will be assessed an automatic game misconduct in addition to other penalties assessed.
*I understand what they're doing here, but this won't stop staged fights. Goons will simply fight 10s after the puck drops.

The author goes on to say he wishes they'd add the elimination of icing when a team is on the PK.
Scotty Bowman's been saying this for years. I'd be all for it.
Apparently they do this in Massachusetts youth hockey and it's worked very well.

Bobby Orr feels game is too dangerous, wants two-line passes removed:

I'd be interested to see how this would look again. I don't think it would generate more offense - but as Mr.Orr points out, neither did removing the red-line or any of the other alterations they made.

Scotty Bowman also believes that by putting the redline back in play, the game will be slower and won't be so dangerous.

It'd be nice if they tried these things in exhibition games.

Usually they test them for a season in the AHL before bringing them to the NHL. Not likely to see a rule change for that regular season based off a few preseason games so it's best to do it on the AHL to get a full sample size.

I believe I read that the deal signed between the two sides dictate that Barclay's management pays the Islanders $53M/year for the rights to parking, concessions, etc:

Under the lease deal, the Islanders agreed to relinquish control of the business side of operations to get out of the red - a rare setup for any pro sports franchise. Barclays Center agreed to pay the Islanders an average lump sum of $53.5 million annually with the arena making its money off ticket and suite sales, sponsorships and other promotions, sources said.
If that is the case, then maybe both parties are fine with the Isles moving to another facility.
