    Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Hartford's governor has invited the Islanders to Hartford on an "interim basis". They still have the same arena as when the Whalers played, but have obviously made changes over time, and it does play host to the AHL Wolfpack team. Just note,it was their old governor who was one of reasons they moved in past since he didn't want them building a new arena.

If Hartford could ever get a new arena, I wonder if they could have another team. Someone should try getting a certain Connecticut based multimillion company to consider investing in getting a new arena and possibly being part owners.

Probably just the 30 for 30 special last night that made me think of it, but as much of a failure as the xfl ended up being, I think if they owned a sports team instead of a league, things could end up working out.

There's a short documentary showing on NHL Network called Slap Shot at 40. I'm sure they'll be showing it a lot. Definitely worth a watch.

I've never actually seen Slap Shot but always thought it'd be up my alley. This show made me REALLY want to check it out, but it doesn't seem to be on Netflix or Hulu

Sounds like islanders might find a new home not too far from their old one. A group of investors, including Dolan, look to be trying to get an arena built by belmont park, which is about 20 minutes from Nassau coliseum.

Leafs trade a 2nd+Froese for Boyle.....Not too sure about this deal. Might help in playoff push, and getting these rookies playoff experience could help in long run, but giving up a 2nd for that?

That's market value. Every trade deadline Dominic Moore gets dealt for a 2nd. With the cap space the Leafs' possess, I imagine they'll push to resign him.

I'd rather give up a 2nd for him than for Alex Burrows, or all those picks for Hanzal.

They need to trade Bozak now then. They got Matthews,Kadri,Boyle as their top 3 Cs and could even have someone like Gauthier as their 4th line C. Best scenario would be finding some team who'd want to take Bozak(max salary retention for this season)+Polak for a draft pick. Or Bozak+Polak+Carrick for a top 4 dman.

If Eaves can get a 1st, imagine what Bozak gets.

Sounds like Shattenkirk to the Caps.

The Washington Capitals are all in. After coming up short of the Stanley Cup Final in every season since drafting superstar forward and captain Alex Ovechkin in 2003, the Caps made a bold trade Monday by acquiring St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk will be traded to the Washington Capitals, per multiple league sources. […]

Caps are absolutely going all in. They better win the cup this year. Ovechkin is arguably one of(if not the) greatest player in NHL history to never win the cup.

Unfortunately though with the NHL playoff structure, we're gonna wind up with Caps-Pens in 2nd round when you know it'd be so much bigger if it were an ECF matchup. Crosby vs Ovechkin where winner goes to the cup finals. One of biggest matchups NHL can put out there.

Still, interesting moves to see today alone. Leafs do a move simply to give their rookies a better chance of getting playoff experience. Habs and Sens make moves trying to hold on to their playoff spots. Caps make a move to win the cup.

Trade deadline day coverage gonna suck again lol.

Yet more evidence that we slipped into a parallel universe sometime last spring.

Still trying to determine the exact moment the timelines diverged: The Villanova buzzer beater? LeBron's block in Game 7? Leicester City clinching the Premiership? The Melisandre "Room 237" scene in GoT? Harambe?
