I feel like Bergeron has been around forever. Did he break in to the NHL as an 18 year old? *checks* Yup.

The player that always makes me question my concept of time is Dainius Zubrus. Yeah, Jagr is like 210 years old but he looks it. Zubrus could pass for a 20 something.

Seeing as they got back just 2 years later, it doesn't sting at all. Runs happen all the time, it's a part of sports.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I can think of something that stings more.

During the lockout Bergeron played for the Canada U-20 team during the "World Junior" tournament. He played on a line with Sidney Crosby, and was the tournament's top score. He had already played a full season in the NHL the year prior, and so it only added to the lore of how stacked the team was.

Apparently next year's Winter Classic is Sabres/Rangers at Citi Field. Sure, I guess.

Wouldn't it made more sense if it were the Isles since you know they're possibly moving to near Citi Field.

But they aren't on "the list". The 6 teams that the NHL rotates to show the country that doesn't care about hockey that the NHL exists!
              NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
              NFL - Buffalo Bills
              MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Neither are the Sabres. Just be thankful it's not a Blackhawks scrimmage.

As expected, an outdoor Canadiens vs Senators game has been scheduled for mid-Dec to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1st NHL game.

Outdoor game in Ottawa in Mid-December....good luck lol.

What'd be so wrong with making the outdoor event an ASW thing instead of randomly placed throughout a season? Winter Classic game on Thursday, other outdoor events(AHL,CWHL) on Friday. Alumni game and skills challenge Saturday. Then the ASG itself on Sunday.

I think the game has passed Don Cherry by. That might be an old take for Canadiens but thankfully I don't see much of him. He said that puck possession is for nerds and that Boston is good because they play hockey like in the 70s. They dump the puck in and then dump it out.

I'd still rather listen to Don Cherry being wrong than most other sports guys who are right. It's just fun hearing him yelling at people randomly, sometimes justifiably.

In the 80s, Cherry was always entertaining and occasionally had some good insights.

In the 10s, I stopped watching.

Today, I count my lucky stars that Cherry's 83 and not 10-20 years younger, because I think there's an excellent chance he would've run for and be voted Prime Minister of Canada.

                          I'm not joking.

I can't even believe Cherry is still at it. Our friends to the north can probably confirm/deny this, but I thought I once heard a story about how Grapes coached and/or managed a midget-league team at some point which, due to his fervent anti-non-Canadian leanings, was a doormat year-after-year? I have no idea if it's true, but the fact that it credibly could be probably speaks volumes in itself.

You are correct, except it wasn't a midget team: it was the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the OHL. Cherry was the owner, the team's logo was based on his dog Blue, and yes, he refused to have Europeans on his team. With Cherry calling the shots over four seasons (1998-2002), the Ice Dogs posted a combined record of 27-222-25 with a goal differential of minus-705.

Holy crap. Didn't realize his run with the Ice Dogs was that bad!

As Dr. Jones said, it was an OHL team. A major junior team, which is the level the majority of NHL prospects play before (and after for one or two years in many cases) get drafted.

I've never been a fan of the Cherry schtick and thought it was embarrassing CBC made that movie about his life a few years ago. Thankfully there'll never be another like him.
