Wild FINALLY signed Kaprisov, but he can't play in the playoffs AND has to burn one year of the deal. That doesn't make sense to me, but whatever.

So Sens have listened to fans and after much deliberation, they're changing things up.

Starting next season they will be changing.......logos.

Going back to their old 2D logo.

Why they never decided on just making their alternate their primary I'll never know.

One rule in the new CBA is that teams can't allow players to use team facilities in the offseason.

Only reason why is because teams were mad at the Leafs for using their practice facility in the summer for their prospects.

Seems like a petty move. I don't see the issue here. If you have a building, why not use it? NBA has practice courts that guys can use whenever.

Leafs practice facility is a public arena so I wonder if they'll get around that rule somehow. Just have players skate with the public or something.

4 time Stanley cup winner Eddie Shack passes away.

I got to meet him a few times. A funny guy for sure.

Looks like some major issues going on in Arizona and it has nothing to do with their arena situation for a change.

No way Taylor Hall would want to stay at this point. Speaking of which, it's been so long without hockey, I didnt even realize Hall was traded from NJ to Arizona! December feels like forever ago.

If there were compliance buyouts, Flames probably could've bought out Lucic and signed Hall.

                Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Seems ownership went over the GM’s head in negotiations with Hall, and also retracted permission from the GM to seek a role with a “third party.” Apparently their GM had founded a sports analytics company before he joined the Coyotes so not sure if he’s looking at other teams or what.

                So he fired himself. Lol

Honestly, thought the NHL still controlled them. I know almost nothing about Arizona.

                Nice weather though.

AHL 20-21 season scheduled to start December 4th.

Could be a good indicator of when NHL season could start.

Stanley cup handed out October 4th for the latest, draft on the 9th/10th.

So a month after the draft could end up having preseason action.

2 months shorter of season, I'd say the season could be 60 games or so.

                    Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

ECHL also follows suit and goes with December 4th start date.

Definitely sounds like NHL season starts then. December 2nd is my guess (Sportsnet Wednesday Night Hockey kicks things off).

In a typical season, to end November we see around 26-28 games played. Let's say the ASG gets cancelled, that frees up a few extra dates getting them to the 58 game mark.

                    No inter conference play.

Play other division in your conference 16 games(1 home, 1 away), your division 42 games (3 home, 3 away). With the Central having 7 teams, we just see some extra games between the 2 divisions.

Depends how long Ovechkin will continue playing for.

Next year even with shortened season, Ovechkin will end up in the top 5.

If he signs another contract, he'll be in the top 3 with a shot at passing Gordie.

I'd say he has to play until he's 40 to pass Gretzky though.

Although imo, what Ovechkin is doing should be considered almost as impressive relative to the rest of the league. He's getting 50 goals a year in a league where teams average 2.7 or so goals a game. Gretzky got around 70-90 when the average was a whole goal more per team.

He would probably have beaten the number of 50-goal seasons record. Needed 2 this year. He won't score 50 the next if it is that shortened.

Also scoring at that necessary level at 39-40 is insanely difficult. Look at how Gretzkys numbers took a hit later in his career...

I'd say he needs as many games as possible while he is relatively young.

Also what happens if he gets injuries? Looses about 15-20 more games in two seasons? In total it is like missing an entire season.

If this covid situation goes on, the season might have to be shortened anyway. You can't put all 31-32 teams in a "bubble" for 80-100 games per team can you?

Not much to do more than just enjoy what he does manage to accomplish even though it might not end up as records I guess. Right now I guess we just have to enjoy what we can.

Rangers get the first pick after finishing the season with more points than 16 other teams in the league.

I don't mind the lottery, but at no point should any of the worst four teams drop out of the top-4 picks.
The NHL consistently finds way to screw things up.
They will once again change how the lottery works to make sure this doesn't happen again - and likely screw something else up while they're at it.

BUT, I do have to give the league some credit for FINALLY fixing the offside rule.
Starting next season, a players skate only has to be over the blueline instead of touching.
A league with any brains would have made this change years ago, but the NHL still deserves some credit as normally this change would have taken at least another decade before it was corrected.
