Re: NHL Off-Topic thread
Going with the movement of changing names/logos, could the Hawks be one of the teams to do so?
Logo is so engrained in hockey history it would be weird moving on from it. Only other logo they even have is the C with the tomahawk so I don't know where they'd go with it.Comment

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread
If you google it, you'll find plenty of designs that combine elements of the current Blackhawks logo with an actual hawk; some of them don't look too bad. (Better than the Indians' block "C", anyway). So long as Dan Snyder's still around, the Blackhawks, Chiefs, et al. won't face as much scrutiny as they would otherwise.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Poor Wings fans.
And TBD wins the lottery!?!?
This is the 2nd craziest thing to happen to hockey this year.
One of the losing teams in the first round of the playoffs will get the #1 pick. How!?
That's literally the only good thing about Leafs losing, the possibility of getting another 1st pick (although if they do, I have no problem dealing Marner or Nylander for a #1 dman).Comment

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread
Chaos just won the NHL lottery.
Somebody is going to go out, lose three games in the play-in round and end up with a huge prize. LOL
What are the chances Edmonton losses in the first round and wins first pick again? 50 per cent? 95 per cent? 120 per cent?Comment

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread
People on Twitter are having a field day saying the lottery is rigged. The LA Kings have the second pick and if one of the New York teams ends up with the top pick people's heads are going to explode like its the NBA's version of the Patrick Ewing draft.
I had no idea one of the play-in losers could win the draft. I thought the top pick could only fall three spots to one of the teams out of the play-in phase. I guess that idea got dumped somewhere along the line.
I embrace the chaos. Will definitely make the play-in round more interesting, especially since the second draft is right after the play-in round.Last edited by bhurst99; 06-26-2020, 09:23 PM.Comment

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread
Bleh. For the second straight year, Detroit drops down a tier (or two) of players in the lottery. I suppose there is a chance Ottawa could pass on Stutzle, but it seems to me that the top 3 picks are a locks and the real draft starts with Detroit at 4.
At 4, Detroit will likely pick between Lucas Raymond, the speedy winger from Sweden, Cole Perfetti, the center who I'm sure Detroit has seen a lot of playing in Saginaw, and Jamie Drysdale, the top rated defenseman in the draft. I got a chance to see Drysdale play, and my impression was lukewarm. Going with a forward in the top 5 is typically a safer play, so if I had to make an early guess, I think Detroit will take Cole Perfetti.
One interesting side effect of dropping in the lottery is it will give a chance for guys like Zadina, Svechnikov, Veleno and Rasmussen a better chance of breaking onto the NHL roster, since Lafreniere or Byfield aren't walking through that door.
As far as free agency, I expect Detroit will be active on the periphery. Detroit has cap space they can leverage, which could be especially valuable with the cap staying flat. I can see Detroit signing a goalie, such as Laurent Brossoit, to a two year deal so they can expose him to Seattle. The rest of the exposure slots are already filled by Abdelkader, Nielsen and DeKeyser. It would not surprise me either to see Detroit add at least one defeseman on a short term deal especially if they believe Seider and Cholowski need more time in the AHL.Comment
