    Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Most of the Wings' rumors have been about Glendening and Green, but I saw one about Helm and Boston. Apparently Boston offered Beleskey for Helm. While I'd like to move Helm's deal, I can agree with Holland on this one that there just isn't enough incentive to do that deal. Now if it was San Jose and Paul Martin or a Ericsson for Beleskey swap then we might be in business. Nyquist's name has bounced around, but I think Holland missed his best chance to move him at the draft, before his NTC kicked in and before he phoned in this season.

I feel bad about calling the Gudbranson extension.

Kings trade Kuemper to Arizona for Rieder and Wedgewood. I wonder if the Coyotes will ship out Raanta since they have Kuemper now?

The only Glendening one I heard was Leafs offered Wings a 5th, Wings said no and wanted a 2nd.

From what I see, Raanta has a good SV% despite playing on worst team in the league. I wouldn't deal him.

US Women, gettin' her done! U-S-A! U-S-A!!!!!

Seriously, though - fantastic game. Real clash of the titans. I only with the men's tournament was nearly as compelling.

Congrats to Team USA in the Women's finals.
It sucks being #2 in a two-team tournament but we lost fair and square.
I rebuke the complaining and sour grapes coming from some of the Canadian women who didn't like losing in a shootout.
Boo friggin hoo. If we had won, not one Canadian player would have said it sucked winning a Gold in a shootout.
Both teams played by the same rules. No excuses.

BTW, loving how Vegas is killing teams by playing all out offense.
I hope they win the Cup and then all the weak-minded, cowardly coaches realize that you can actually win games by allowing your best offensive players to do what they do best.

            LOL!! A 2nd for Glendenning?!?!?
If Holland had any sense he should have said they could have Glendenning for free if they took Helm with him.

So glad Holland's contract is up after this season. Please do not renew.
And to think Wings management let Nill and Yzerman walk in lieu of Holland. Unbelievable.

Glad I stayed up to watch the women's gold medal game. What a move for the winning goal - she disintegrated the Canadian goalie there. Then the 20-year-old Duluthian in goal made the winning stop.

I saw that the Canada team was taking their medals off after getting them.

Yeah, I think most people understand that losing in a shootout is sub-optimal and not the best way to decide a champion, but I understand Team Canada's irritation. I think they just have to give sports fans a little more credit and allow for the fact that everyone watching understands that it's a pretty lousy way to decide the champion, and it stinks for the loser to go out that way, and the people know they were good enough to win. But let people make that argument for you, you don't have to do it yourself.

It's not the best look, but I think anyone that's ever played competitive sports - even not remotely on that level - understands how badly that stinks to lose and have to put on the loser's medal. I would give them a free pass on that (this time). It happens in soccer all the time - the second they put the runner-up medal on the neck of the World Cup or Champions' League final loser, they yank it off and walk off the stage. I sort of wish people wouldn't do that, but I do understand to some extent.

Yeah....I'd ship Glendenning out of town for a bag of hockey pucks and a ham sandwich. I can sort of understand why they had to let Yzerman leave at that particular point in time, but man....talk about betting on the wrong horse.

Oh I know the feeling. I wasn't beating them up either. Just throwing it out there. I always remember LeBron James walking off the court after losing to Orlando. It was such a big deal to people.

Yeah, I saw some people making a big deal out of "showing class" or whatever. We expect our athletes to pour their heart and soul into the game and show emotion while playing, but also fully control them at all times during the game and switch it off right when the game ends. Can't have it both ways.

This is why I didn't care when the Swedish player tossed his into the stands.

I'd ask for a 2nd too. Dominic Moore spent his career getting traded for a 2nd. I think there enough old school GM's left that would like Glendening and give up more than a 5th. Worst case, call up Babs and accept his offer. Helm and Glendening for future considerations works too.

Only thing I don't like about that is that it could hurt someone that isn't paying attention. But it's not like he chucked it in there. He lobbed it to a guy that was watching.

Canada-USA for gold, and of course it was exciting. Sucks Canada lost, but it was another crazy game. Back to back Olympics of it going past regulation.

Going back to the NHL talk, Rangers are getting ready to pull the trigger.

Already dealt Grabner for a 2nd and a prospect. They also didn't play Nash as they're gonna trade him soon. McDonagh also gonna be gone soon too.
