One of the issues with NHL as people have mentioned before..they lack the rivalries/big matchups that other sports got. Stars for example I don't know how many big rivals they got, but they played Oilers and Blues in playoffs alot in 90s and early 00s. Or the Wild(who Stars played in 2016 playoffs, and the Stars used to be in Minnesota). Best bet, maybe go for their opponents more than the Stars. Like see them play the Pens or Hawks or something. Even Oilers probably would be a good choice because of McDavid.

Looking at their schedule, they do play the Oilers on a Saturday afternoon in November(and again January right after New Years), so that might be worth checking out. They also play the Hawks on Saturday night to start December. How lucky people in Dallas are, you can see game for under $30.

Wings scoreboard in their new arena(which I still think they missed the boat big time on naming it "Little Ceasars Palace"):

Gonna be the biggest "seamless centerhung scoreboard system" in the world. For reference though, the one the Cowboys has is "only" twice as big.

The new trend that arenas are doing with the mini screens below the big one so that players can see the screen from the ground is a nice touch.

I've thought about driving down from Oklahoma to attend my first-ever NHL game the past couple seasons, but I've realized I'm not really a very big Stars fan. They're the closest NHL team to me, but that's about it. If I do go, it'll probably be to see the Oilers or Hawks I'm guessing.

And maybe I'll become a Vegas fan since I don't really have a favorite. I'll have to see if they play the Stars in Dallas next season! Haha

Edit: I just looked at the schedule, and Vegas' first game is literally against the Stars in Dallas. Wow, that's kind of creepy. I may have to check that game out just for historical reasons alone!

In the NHL every team plays in every NHL city at least once during the season.

That's one thing I like is getting to play against every team in their home and yours. Sure it does suck from a rivalry perspective (you don't get to play your own division as much), but it's nice to experience the whole league every season.

They play in their own division plenty.

You already admitted in another post that rivalries are almost non existent so it doesn't even matter with the current alignment.

4-5 games isn't plenty. Rivalries could be helped though under a diff alignment.

Rivalries were strongest with the old playoff format where you had to play out of your division.
Maybe if the league gets to 32 teams, they can go back to that.
But watch, they'll realign and make 8 divisions, add some weird wildcard scenarios...

8 divisions wouldn't be bad if they do it NFL style with 2 conferences, neither of which are east or west conferences(do we really hear as much conference alignment discussion in NFL/MLB as we do in NBA/NHL?). But if NHL keeps it up, we'll have 4 divisions with 8 teams each lol. Nothing says division rivalry like Toronto vs Florida, Carolina vs Pittsburgh, Arizona vs Vancouver!

What scenario could NHL possibly come up with to mess up the WC spots in an 8 division league? 2 WC play-in games or something lol.

You can't manufacture rivalries. They have to come about naturally. A few playoff series with bad blood, a nice race in the standings, some fights/memorable incidents/games in the regular season, etc.

There are multiple types of rivals. Geographic, Cultural, Playoff, Divisional, etc.

Let them happen naturally. They last that way. The NBA is better at manufacturing rivalries out of thin air.

Lightning are conducting a survey asking people about a new alternate jersey design(for 18-19 season).

I think lots more teams should do things like that. The jersey is supposed to represent the team and just as importantly, it's gonna be sold to the fans, so why not let the fans have input on what they want/don't want to see on it(for example in this survey, they ask a question about feelings on the BOLTS name on the jersey)

More reasons why nhl sucks at marketing

National games in USA, a chance to showcase big teams and stars, but instead some of your big matchups are Sabres VS Jackets, Flyers VS Sharks, Stars VS Pens........ None of which are must see matchups Imo.

Wings get on 12 times, Sabres 7, but Matthews and Mcdavid get on a combined 6 times... Way to showcase your stars. Sure, Canadian ratings mean nothing to nbc, but if they want to grow the game, shouldn't they be pushing 2 of the best players in the league. If nhl was truly good at marketing, they'd be able to have 2 of their best young stars transcend the border. Weren't tv ratings great last year in USA in the matchups with leafs and Oilers?
