When I saw the details of the Hamonic trade to the Flames, I was disappointed Sakic didn’t make that trade and flipped Hamonic to Calgary to get those picks.

I take everything back, this is good

To Nashville - Kyle Turris (who signs a six-year, $36 Million extension with the Preds)

      To Ottawa - Matt Duchene

To Colorado - Vladislav Kamenev (NSH), Samuel Girard (NSH), Shane Bowers (OTT), Ottawa's 2018 1st, Nashville's 2nd and the Sens 3rd round pick, Andrew Hammond (OTT)

I'm not 100% sure on this from the Sens' end. They're going to be in the same place with Duchene one year from now that they were with Turris. They essentially dealt two firsts (Bowers was their 1st from last year) for a 1.5 year upgrade over Turris.

Nashville trades two of their better prospects in Kamenev and Girard plus a 2nd for an extended Turris, which makes sense for a team going for it. Kamanev and Girard were both former 2nd round picks; Kamanev is a quality C prospect and Girard cracked a deep Nashville D at 19. Nashville also kept their top prospect, Dante Fabbro.

As far as the return they did get vs a 1st and Hamonic (assuming Hamonic is flipped), the preference essentially comes down to if you'd rather have Girard, Bowers and Kamenev or a late 1st, with the Hamonic return getting canceled out by the other picks in this deal. In my opinion, that's a pretty easy choice; give me the prospects that the non-Sakic individuals drafted and developed.

        Same

With the way Bobby Mac has been speculating, I wouldn't be surprised if Sakic flips some picks to get a player. Hope not, since this upcoming draft is good.

So it appears Duschesne asked for a trade back in December of 2016.
          I had no idea.

Reading quotes from Avs players, I don't know how well liked Duschesne was in the dressing room by the end.
Hockey players are the most boring, least-entertaining athletes off the playing field, so none of the quotes were close to Allan Iverson level, but for hockey players they were still pretty damning.

I'm a fan of Duschesne so I hope he does really well in Ottawa.
I also hope Mackinnon takes the reigns on this team and becomes the offensive force so many predicted.

According to a report, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta held a meeting in recent weeks to discuss the viability of an NHL team in Houston.

Multiple sources told Katie Strang of The Athletic that the preliminary meeting took place at the NHL offices in New York.

Bettman declined to comment on the meeting to Strang, but did say that the league is not relocating any clubs right now.

But asked if Houston might be considered if an opportunity arose, Bettman said, “if Houston were to express an interest in having an NHL franchise, under the right circumstances, it's something we might want to consider.”
So another possible market for NHL. A willing owner who has the money and an arena, if things work out then NHL really could have a team there too.

The Houston Aeros were the most successful WHA team that the NHL did not end up taking. They should have taken them, 21 teams is a very strange number.

I've heard that if the NHL had its way they'd expand to Houston and move Arizona and Carolina to Seattle and Quebec respectively.

More like if I had my way lol. Canes and Coyotes have to go.

If Houston is serious, then you have 2 major cities with arenas that can house an NHL team tomorrow if they wanted. Meanwhile, you have current markets that can't draw fans.

Unfortunately, who knows how much happens between now and next CBA. Ideal scenario are 2 relocations asap, and then we see western expansion after next lockout.

On HNIC, based on what they've been hearing from GM meeting topics, sounds like 1 minute penalties could become a thing.

All OT penalties could be 1 minute. Could also have 1 minute penalties in regulation for certain ones like the puck over the glass.

Wonder how that'd work out if it ever happened. Many teams play a single line on specialty teams for over a minute at a time, so if there are 1 minute penalties, we might not see a line change the entire time.

Might be radical, but considering I've always hated the shorthand team being able to ice the puck, why not change all penalties to 1 min but no icing allowed?
I'd prefer 2 min and no icing, but maybe this would be common ground for both sides.

I don't see any changes needed at all. Of all the things to tweak about hockey, penalty minutes isn't something I'd even put on the list.

They’d ice the puck every possession, face off and no line change be damned. Would be even more of a slog then it already is.

Remember, these coaches are GUTLESS COWARDS.

                          MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Only 1 minute for the over the glass thing is a step in the right direction of completely abolishing that stupid penalty. It should just be treated as icing.

I'd rather they got rid of the rule instead of making it a 1 minute penalty.
By reducing the sentence it basically shows you that the league is full of crybabies and how much refs hate calling the rulebook.
