    NHL Off-Topic thread

Rule wise I hope shootouts are done so they bring back ties and more emphasis on obstruction penalties.

I don't believe scoring necessarily has to be higher just a much faster game with less holding and hooking. This would hopefully increase the scoring chances.

I don't think making goalie equipment smaller will do anything. I forgot who it was but an NHL goalie was discussing that equipment adjustments might have the opposite effect on scoring as it would just make goalies faster and more agile. He also said the last goalie equipment change did nothing.

I'm not sure I buy that.
First, I've seen plenty of saves where the goalie didn't even see the puck but it hit a peice of the goalies size XXXXL pants or 24" arm pad.
Secondly, the current gear is light as air. If they can't be fast in that now, then they won't be fast in gear that's simply smaller in scale.

Regarding the last changes, they were insignificant because they didn't target the biggest issue which is oversized chest, arm and pant protection.
There are goalies with 30" waists who wear a size 44" pant.
Ryan Miller has 11" arms and yet his arm padding looks like it was fitted for Mr Olympia.

Even if the slimmer upper-body gear doesn't do a thing at the very least it will eliminate one part of the equation.
If shooters still can't get pucks past slim goalies, then we know the next step is to either take 2 skaters off the ice or just make the nets bigger.

But truth be told, I'm somewhat hoping that the goalies will be just as effective with slimmer gear because then it means they're more exciting.
I'm tired of watching boring belly saves over and over.
If goalies become more acrobatic, then so be it. At least we're adding a different element of entertainment to the game.

On a recent radio show, one commentator said that the NHL needs to either add more goals or more fights.
Because in its current state, the game is too bland. The league needs to offer something more for the consumer.
I'd much rather see exciting, clean goals than two Dancing Bears squaring off.

I think this is a perfect synopsis of hockey currently, to me.

Honestly, I love it. No one cares about the ASG anyways, so this is a hilarious wakeup call/spoof to the league. It's John Scott, man—the people have spoken.

It's kind of annoying that people took advantage of the voting system and a more deserving player didn't get the honor (I guess that's what it is), but it's happened before when fans get to vote for something like this so the NHL should've known there was a chance it would be a mockery.

I just wish they would've voted for a different player. John Scott? Blegh.

Ugh. Pity the poor fool who has to fight with the NHLPA and Euro leagues over player ratings.

Once upon a time, I was that poor fool.

It's embarrassing that he has any ratings above 60 in any category outside of checking and fighting.
Even hands at 73 is a joke.

The EA team must have a system where if you're an NHL player, your stats have to be above 70 regardless of how crappy you are.

Gross. My feelings on him have been made known on here in the past. I can't believe this guy cashes an NHL paycheck.

Rated an 84 in skating. Hahahahahahaha

                      Those are my thoughts too.

Goons need to be rooted from the game. The fact that he can still earn a spot on an NHL roster is laughable.
There are probably 1000+ hockey players on the planet that can skate circles around him. The fact that he can play in the NHL simply because he can bare-knuckle box on skates is disgusting.

All star game rosters announced. Crosby is the most notable player not there.

Central division is so winning the ASG, Kane/Toews and Seguin/Benn. Those top 2 lines will be crazy.

Atlantic is the worst one. Central vs Metro in the finals is my guess.

Kings acquire Lecavalier and Luke Schenn. Jordan Weal and a 3rd heading to the Flyers. Haven't really watched Philly this season. This is more of a depth move for LA I'm assuming?

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Luke Schenn and forward Vincent Lecavalier for forward prospect Jordan Weal and a third round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Greene is on LTIR for the Kings. Their bottom pairing D isn't exactly locked up. Ehrhoff and McBain are the bottom 2, neither getting lots of minutes(between 12-15). Adding Schenn could at least give them options on that bottom pairing.

And Lecavalier might retire at the end of the year, it's just adding a vet player to a cup contending team.

I'm guessing they want Vinny to help while he's out and hopefully fill in on the 3rd line when he returns?

I'm a big fan of Weal's. I hope he gets a shot in Philly. He has a sick pair of hands.

Holy cow! Johannson for Seth Jones!
The Nashville Predators traded defenceman Seth Jones to the Columbus Blue Jackets for centre Ryan Johansen on Wednesday, giving up a young piece of their defence in search of some more offence.

Great deal for both teams. Both needed to fill that need.
Just not sure who's going to play C for Blue Jackets.
