    Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread

4.5m for a 3rd line guy is a lot, but if that's only happening cause a team has two #1Cs ahead of him, and he'd be a #2C in a normal situation, then ya, people would take that for sure.

Not like a Clarkson situation where they pay 5M for a 3rd line guy on a rather weak team.

A 31-year-old Martin Erat and Michael Latta for Forsberg. That might be up there as worst trade ever.

A friend of mine actually shared a classroom with him when both were taking computer courses to earn their MS and CISCO certifications (about 10 years ago).
One of those ‘quickie’ colleges that gets you certified in 6 to 12 months.

He didn’t have many positive things to say about the Pens organization or pro hockey. He said when his career was over he basically tossed his skates in the closet and never looked at them again for years.
At that time, he was just starting to get back into the sport by way of hosting hockey camps in Windsor.

Yep. Neely is my cheap go-to response to troll the Canucks, but Naslund for Stojanov is actually a far worse trade, likely the worst one-for-one deal in NHL history. Neely/Pederson and Rask/Raycroft were semi-defensible at the time and awful in retrospect. But I mean, who in the world thought this was a good idea at the time, or at any time?

                  Stojanov, 95/96 season (age 22): 58GP, 0G, 1A, 1P (123PIM)
                  Naslund, 95/96 season (age 22): 66GP, 19G, 33A, 52P

So Benning was fined for tampering. He specifically mentioned targeting Subban and Stamkos before the official window. Never change.

Apparently Bruins are preparing to offer Trouba(RFA) an offer sheet. The amount would fall in the "4 first rounders" category of compensation. Safe to say, Jets would be stupid to even think about matching. Take the picks and run. And even just trade 2 of those picks for a new dman if they absolutely want.

FA needs to hurry up! Can't believe draft was on Friday/Saturday, feels like so long ago already. Stamkos news will be so great to hear, or a year+ of false hope.

Chevaldaeoff said the Jets have lots of cap space and will match whatever offer comes their way.
Sounds like they're looking to deal Myers once Trouba is taken care of.

I'm geeked for Friday as well. More than I have been in a long time.
Maybe it's because the Wings appear to be engaged in a FA that isn't 1000 years old.
They're clearly going after Stamkos, but failing that, they're targeting Okposo (who isn't?) and Frans Nielsen.

I like Nielsen and I think he'll fit in well with the Wings.
But I'm worried that Holland will throw crazy money and term his way. We already have to suffer with Green's terrible contract.
Plus, I really wanted to see Larkin as a centre this season. He's ready to move back to his natural position and I think he'd be dynamite with Nyquist.

Which is part of reason I think if Leafs do want Stamkos, they'll go for him harder than other teams. Other teams might look at Okposo and so on, but for the Leafs, outside of Stamkos, I don't see any other major FA forward they'll be interested in going after.

Other teams got a Plan B,C,D ect. Leafs only have Plan A.

And Shanahan more than other GMs/presidents could probably relate to thoughts probably going through Stamkos head. Growing up a Leaf fan, knowing exactly what it'd mean to play for his hometown team. Sure,Shanahan never did that, but he'd know the right things to say to Stamkos in this situation to sell him on playing for the Leafs.

Handing him the C would also probably help too. Playing for your fave team who has one of(if not the) top prospect pools in the league, being the face of the biggest franchise in the league, and being captain of them as well. Don't know how many bigger opportunities has ever come up for a player in hockey before. Stamkos on a successful Leafs team would be bigger than Crosby and Ovechkin could ever be.

Sounds like Oilers are a front runner for Lucic.
I wonder if the Leafs are in on that if they don't get Stamkos?

One report had the Oilers considering signing Lucic and then trading Hall for a dman.
Big mistake IMO. Hall seems to be one of the few Oilers who gives a crap and plays hard every night.
RNH is the first that should go. I wonder if the Islanders would have taken him for Hamonic during the middle of the season.
