Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
Yup - he was completely misused in his (very little) time in Detroit, and his GM and coach threw him under the bus. I have now reached the point where I have no confidence in Ken Holland, and very little in Jeff Blashill. We have signed Abdelkader and Glendening for the same or more money as Tampa signs Kucherov. Are you kidding me?
Yzerman come home, for the love of God.
We've let two really good managers leave (Jim Nill, Yzerman) to keep Holland.
Holland was awesome when the Wings had Lidstrom. That legend covered a lot of ugly spots.
Kenny needs to go. Every year he signs over-the-hill vets which takes time away from kids who are peculating too long on the farm.
While other teams are calling their young kids up earlier and reaping the benefits, Holland still thinks it's 2002 where having farmhands stay in Grand Rapids till they're 24 is the norm.
We've lost Pulkanin because Kenny signed Ott and resigned Miller, Glendenning and Helm.
Helm is making almost as much as Kucherov. Seriously?
I hope PulCannon scores 25 in Minnesota. Maybe that'll finally get Holland fired so we can get someone who seems to understand the NHL landscape in 2016.
But chances are, he'll retire as a Red Wing employee and next year he'll be sure to sign John Scott which will expose Mantha to waivers.Comment

Re: NHL 2016 Off-Season Thread
While Pulkkinen didn't end up in Toronto, Bruce Boudreau is a good coach as far as allowing offensive players to score.
To be fair, you can't really compare the Kucherov contract to Helm's, one is buying out RFA years and the other UFA years. Same with Rakell. Kucherov will be a RFA at the end of his deal, and will ask for monster money, so this bridge deal will probably hurt Tampa long term.Comment

I'd rather have Kucherov at that price for the shorterm and let the future worry about itself down the road.
Tampa Bay's window is wide open right now so might as well go for it.
The Wings window is closed, nailed-shut and tarred over with grease and cobwebs.
Yet Holland feels the need to pay a 4th line player $3.85M.
The fact that he claims he did research and discovered that Helm would have gotten more on the open market reveals how out of touch he is.
Even if what he says is true, then it's even more reason to let him walk and allow a competing team to handcuff themselves with that terrible contract.
It's really hard to be excited about the Wings right now. They could very well squeak into the playoffs, or they could be on the outside looking in.
Regardless, this team isn't remotely close to winning a Cup, but they're just good enough to get a middling draft pick - which will probably be traded for two 2nd's, who will sit in Grand Rapids until 2025.Comment
