I can't imagine that a sports team would trade a superstar for a reason like that. I just don't believe it. Period.

Also, how in the living **** is Tampa gonna afford to keep all their guys?

They're not. Welcome to the salary cap era. There's a laundry list of players that have been let go because of the hard cap. Here in Chicago there were 8 players lost just the year after winning it in 2010. They've been losing good players ever since. Saad will be one that always hurts as well as Sharp. It's one of the many reasons Bettman is incessantly booed.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Hall-Larsson and Subban-Weber deals. Subban-Josi is just going to be filthy and Edmonton needed defense but couldn't do better than Larsson? I don't know.

I'm hearing the Canucks made an offer for Subban but wasn't even close. I'd love to know what kind of offer Vancouver put together. The ask from Montreal to Edmonton for Subban was Draisaitl, #4, Klefbom or Nurse and more.

Interesting stuff about Subban and Pacioretty.
I also don’t think it’s a secret that Therien didn’t like him. God forbid a dman try to make an offensive play once in a while.
And God forbid a player show a personality. But, as Doc pointed out, all players in Canada are supposed to mirror a robot who only spits out cliché’s between crosschecks to an opponent’s neck.

Heard Chiarelli and Hall’s conference calls on the way in to work. To say Hall took this trade hard is an understatement.
He basically admitted to taking it personally and told Chiarelli that he was not part of the problem, he was part of the solution. He’s looking forward to lighting it up in NJ and making sure Edmonton knows what a mistake they made.
Here’s a guy that actually wanted to stay in Edmonton (same with Subban).
As Doc pointed out, when CDN cities can’t sign one big-time free agent, or hold onto talent, here’s a 24YO star who planted roots and was a good soldier through the poopshow that’s been the Oilers for the past decade. And they reward him by trading him away. Unbelievable.
If I’m McDavid, I’m taking notes.

Is it wrong to dream that Nashville flips Subban for a forward?
I'd love to see the Wings put a package together for him.

I don't see the Preds dealing him though. I think they would have done that immediately.
Josi and Subban on the PP together? Awesome.

Nice Subban article that sums up what was going on in Montreal with Subban:

Bergevin clearly knew this was not going to be a popular trade. I believe him when he said this was one of the hardest decisions he has had to make as GM — probably the hardest. And I believe him when he says that he genuinely likes P.K. and that he wishes him well.

Head coach Michel Therrien cannot say the same — or at least he can’t say it and tell the truth. Therrien did not like Subban. Didn’t like him when he was commenting for RDS, didn’t like him when he took over as head coach, didn’t like him when the wheels were falling off his team last winter. If Therrien loved his star defenceman, this deal would never have been made. Therrien does not like Subban and the feeling, no doubt, is mutual.

There was a profound rift in that dressing room, with captain Max Pacioretty on one side and Subban on the other — and with management squarely behind Pacioretty. To give Pacioretty a team award for community service during a season when Subban promised to raise $10 million for the new hospital was an open slap in the face to the defenceman, delivered by his teammates.

              1. Carle is getting bought out. Hes getting payed lots (maybe 4.5 mil?) to be a healthy scratch

              2. Val Fillppula (add a few more p's and l's) is likely getting traded

              3. I'm pretty sure that Ohlund's contract comes off the books this season

              4. Bishop/Vasilesvkiy is getting traded (they both have one year left but Vasy is a RFA

              5. It's Yzerman, he got a Vezina candidate for Cory Conacher. He will figure something out.

So they choose Max Pax over P.K. Subban and then the media complains about the NHL having a conspiracy against Canadian teams?

Thanks for posting the article, Hank.

Maybe some day hockey will be ok with its stars being entertaining public figures with some personality instead of an army of Gary Cooper's.

Hmmm, so it wasn't entirely a Therrien/Subban thing, but Pacioretty being with Therrien really split the organization.

If it were me, I'd can the coach and have shipped Pacioretty. I like him, but Subban is less replaceable.

I guess when you limit your coaching candidates to only certain people, it made more sense to not have to fire/hire a coach and make a trade instead of just making one trade. That's the only way I can really justify this. That and the building toxicity of the ridiculous implosion by the team probably made this inevitable.

Subban will be sooo much better off in Nashville. Just a shame that he gave that team and city his all, and is being shipped out like he was a team cancer.

I think the Habs missed out on great opportunity to hire Guy Boucher.
He's French Canadian, more 'new school' and he coached Subban in the AHL. In fact, PK said he was the smartest coach he ever played for.
They should have worked with their best player, not against him.
Instead they stick with Dean Wormer, aka Michel Therien, who didn't like the cut of his jib.

I'm hearing Tanev and the 5th overall pick (if Dubois was available). LOL

Thanks for that article. So it looks like what I posted did have some truth in it. I always knew Therrien hated PK's guts but add Pacioretty to that mix and it's even worse. I don't understand this country's obsession with our hockey stars being duller than dishwater. PK's one of those guys who brings excitement on and off the ice and has proven to be a class guy.
