I find that interesting, especially on Coyotes front. Sharks and Kings are obviously improved, and Vegas should still be a playoff team, and Ducks probably top 3 in division also. Flames have also improved and Oilers surely can do better right? So Coyotes picked to finish top 4 or so in their division I think is unlikely, but crazier things(Vegas) have happened.

I could see a scenario where Sabres do improve alot. Obviously having guys like Eichel/Dahlin is great, and Sens/Habs/Wings possibly being the 3 worst teams in the NHL next year, Sabres could rack up alot of easy points within their division. I know Leafs historically have trouble vs Sabres too, so there's a chance they could steal some points there too.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Ducks don't make the playoffs this season.
Flames should be improved. Oilers will still suck.

Oilers had potential to be best team in the league but blew it. Build a team around McDavid, and they failed at that.

After this season they'll need a new goalie. They better hope there's a real good starting goalie available on the market somewhere. Or hope Montreal gets even stupider and trades Price and actually takes Lucic back as part of that trade. Right now, Oilers best hope for future is Seattle taking Lucic, and even that seems real unlikely unless they give up ALOT to do so(Lucic has a NMC, but grew up in Vancouver, so Seattle(which is only a few hour drive from Vancouver) might be Oilers only chance to ever move him)

Most teams played already, but today is Leafs first pre-season game! Tavares makes his Leafs debut! Game happening near London,Ontario which is where Marner/Tavares/Kadri all played junior hockey (Tavares/Kadri together), so it's special for them.

What a first pre-seeason game! Especially with it being right by London.

Tavares with 2 goals and an assist. Marner with a goal and 2 assists. Safe to say, this line is gonna be good.

Habs wanted Domi, they got Domi.....TIE Domi.

Seems so weird seeing Domi on the back of a Habs jersey.

I like the Ducks' roster, but they're coached by Randy Carlyle. I could see them falling out. I could see LA falling out too; their roster is old and top heavy, Kovalchuk is an unknown, and can you really count on Dustin Brown for 60+ points again? I could see Vegas taking a step back as well.

I agree on the Oilers and the Flames.

Sabres will be better, but they strike me as a 10th/11th in the East kind of squad. Too many question marks for me to earmark them for the playoffs.

Anyone who doesn't believe the NHL wants violence and hate only needs to read the information surrounding the Domi-Ekblad incident.
Ekblad has promised revenge. The NHL will do nothing about it, just like it did nothing about Domi sucker-punching and breaking his nose.
                  They love this crap.
It's why it's so infuriating when the league claims it really wants to help protect the players from brain trauma.
Just like OJ is still the only person looking for Nicole and Ron's true killer.

Aaron Ekblad revealed Friday he sustained a broken nose when he was punched by Montreal Canadiens forward Max Domi on Wednesday night. The Florida Panthers defenceman said he doesn't believe Domi’s suspension for the remainder of the preseason fits the crime and vowed that there would be revenge in the future.

P.S. I can't wait to hear Don Cherry speak on this. I'm sure he'll blame the victim and say something like "Ekblad should have protected himself."
Because, you know, one of the top dmen, with a history of concussions, should want to engage in a fight with an insignificant POS during a preseason game.

Re: The Official 2018-19 Season Talk Thread

Montreal-Florida don't play until December 28th. What was a regular game during the holidays now turned into one to watch for. And fittingly enough, a Friday night matchup.

But speaking of the brain trauma, seems like the people behind the new helmets in the NFL are trying to do the same for the NHL. They also happened to be a Seattle based company, so obviously would be a win-win for NHL getting that done. Bring a team to Seattle and partner up with a group from there to improve player safety.

NHL definitely doesn't do enough to improve player safety. If Don Cherry could find ways to make game safer, imagine people who actually put time/money into research. It's possible to have equipment that's smaller AND more durable.

Also, Tavares with 4 goals in 2 games

Bad news for the Ducks. Perry is out for 5 months, meaning sometime after the deadline most likely.

Kings and Sharks drastically improved, and I had Ducks as 3 seed in their division originally. The way everything is going, Knights probably faves for 3 seed in the division. Ducks might not make playoffs anymore. Flames might benefit the most of everyone unless Ducks can find someone to replace him. Sens badly need to move Duchene/Stone, so I'd imagine they'd be talking with Sens. Maybe Ritchie who's still an RFA could be traded.

Cool to see Canes going with the Whalers jerseys. At least they're trying somewhat to do some things differently. Maybe something comes out of the Whalers stuff in future, like a mashup logo:

And as messed up as Flyers mascot is, it's now the most talked about/followed mascot in hockey.

I'm guessing certain people in here saw the Wings-Leafs game.....

What a PP. Scary how good they'll be. And offense in general, 4 goals in under 4 minutes. All this WITHOUT Nylander.
