Anyone think this Nylander thing will get resolved anytime soon? For Leafs, it's not just about paying him, it's about fitting their core under the cap and with Nylander being "the bar", if they did give him more, then Marner/Matthews have a case to get even more.

I just don't get how ONE (thanks Edmonton...) contract is the comparison for Nylanders case(and in medias eyes, reason for comparison for Marner/Matthews) when there's way more comparables at a lower price.

Regardless if Leafs were gonna be near the cap or not, Nylanders comparison should peak around 7M.

If Leafs continue having games like we've seen so far this year (allowing 3+ goals per game, but scoring 3+ per game too), might make more people happier dealing Nylander for defense given that Leafs offense is fine without him, and he'd be most valuable trading chip for a dman.

Shanahans comments were fine, if he used a better example(like the Warriors or Lightning).

But Leafs are saving money on the cap hit the longer this goes on. CapFriendly did a good piece on it.

December 1st being the biggest signing date here.

5 year contract at 7M could have Leafs saving 400k+ per year on cap hit beyond this year. Given how Leafs have cap room to play with this year and want to save beyond this year, something like what Capfriendly is suggesting seems very realistic.

They have lots of smart cap guys on their staff, some even worked for the NHL, so Leafs know what they're doing.


Matthews has 10 points(7 goals) in 4 games! Tavares with 6 goals. Marner with 8 points. Nylander who?

Auston Matthews is good at hockey.

Morgan Rielly is now better than Bobby Orr (through 5 games) lol.

Tavares set career high with 4 assists.

It reminds me of the 2015 Jays. They'll kill you on offence, but they'll allow alot. Anyone who wants 80s scoring, watch leafs games.

Business as usual for the NHL.
It’s fun watching players, with no discernible skill, consistently injure talented players who are worth the overpriced admission.
And the NHL does nothing.
But hey, Matheson better not even think about doing that another 4 times or else the NHL will get really mad!! (See Cooke, Torres and now Wilson).

BTW, I want the Wings to tank to get Hughes. We need him.
I just wish if they lose they do it 6-5 every night.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I think a horrible season will also (hopefully) usher Kenny Holland out the door with some cover for ownership. Thanks for the memories, but it's time to move on.

And the losing is one thing, but can't you at least be somewhat interesting to watch while doing it? Just try to go outscore everyone, and forget about defense. At least you'll be fun to watch while losing.
