I think my biggest criticism of Dubas is the total eschewing of bridge deals. I can understand the Oilers going top-heavy because they have no choice - no decent FA is ever going to sign with Edmonton - but did Dubas really have to give Matthews and Marner top-5 salaries right out of the gate? If I'm reading this right, Matthews' 11.6M salary only bought one year of UFA. I understand that he was banking on the salary cap going up, but if your team is THIS top-heavy, they absolutely have to produce, no?

I'll offer only one defence of my 1996 Redux picks:
They can't possibly be as bad as my Twins/Reds World Series prediction last fall.
Maple Leafs over Canadiens in 6
Oilers over Jets in 6
Predators over Hurricanes in 6
Panthers over Lightning in 7
Islanders over Penguins in 6
Bruins over Capitals in 7
Avalanche over Blues in 6
Wild over Golden Knights in 7
Maple Leafs over Oilers in 5
Panthers over Predators in 6
Bruins over Islanders in 5
Avalanche over Wild in 6
Panthers over Maple Leafs in 7
Avalanche over Bruins in 6
Avalanche over Panthers in 5
Anyway, since the NHL can be late starting the 2nd round, I can be late with my 2nd round picks:
Jets over Canadiens in 5
Lightning over Hurricanes in 6
Bruins over Islanders in 6
Avalanche over Golden Knights in 7
Best of luck to the Habs/Jets winner, LOL.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. I gotta admit, the Leafs, Canucks, and Sabres all put on a hell of a display this season to reach the pinnacle of my NHL's Most Cursed Franchise rankings. This is a peak Fed/Rafa/Djoker clash of the titans to be declared WOAT - it's too close to call!Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. If Montreal gets to the Finals, it'll be a hard pass as I know the hockey will be extremely boring.Comment

It’s really gotta be Toronto for right now. Buffalo hasn’t been good enough to experience true heartbreak lately (though they’ve had their share in the past), though I recognize being awful is a different, fun way of being cursed. Vancouver had a good run losing to Chicago but they broke that even if they haven’t broken the championship curse. It feels half broken... but I’m not a VAN fan either.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Its 1000% the Leafs.
Don't even know how that can be a discussion.
Buffalo as a sports city is more cursed than Toronto, Cleveland up there too, but the Leafs win overall cursed.
In all 5 playoff appearances with this group, 0 has featured a full roster for most of the series.
Between Polak being hurt, Kadri being suspended, Kadri being suspended, Muzzin hurt, Tavares hurt, Foligno hurt, Muzzin hurt, they've always dealt with a major loss.
They've literally had back to back playoffs where one of their top guys was taken away on a stretcher. If that isn't the major proof of a curse, don't know what else is.Comment

Is it weird that less than 24 hours after the game I don't feel bad?
I guess 5 years of this has made me get over it fairly quickly.
I've moved on and can basically laugh about it less than a day later. At this point its basically expected. Maybe because its June and I've never seen June Leafs hockey, so it doesn't feel weird they're not playing anymore?Comment

Just because you can hit someone, doesn’t mean you should. That’s the type of hit reserved for a video game. Evans looked predictably lifeless before he even hit the ice, hope he recovers...NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
