Re: Not Impressed with TW at all

I dare you to find me a console golf game (especially any of the next generation titles) that isn't easy. Once you get used to these games, they're all easy. Even with analog swing, there's only so much off center you could go. Tri click (Hot Shots) is even easier. If you want total realism, get a PC golf game that uses mouse swing. You can't recreate that with a controller.

As I said in another post, maybe it's just the fact that I'm starting over again with low attributes, but this version actually seems a little more difficult than last years. The analog swing seems looser (easier to hit offline).

picked up TW last night and played for a few hours. I have to say that I am not at all impressed with this game. All the reviews I have read say its a great game. My biggest concern was going to be that the game gets too easy.

I thought with the online component and a PGA Tour that it would still be worth a buy.

It does have a lot of features to keep you busy. However, I doubt if the game will keep my attention long enough to play them.

I played the heck out of Hot Shots 3 and still enjoy hitting a round. This game is nothing like Hot Shots. In fact Hot Shots seems much more realistic to me.

This is the first TW game that I have ever played. In my first 9 holes I eagled from 158 yards away and holed my first par 3. Its kind of hard to explain but it didnt feel like i did anything to make the shots. You just pull back on the stick and push it forward. It seems like the ball is on a predetermined path and will go where it wants.

The ball physics just seem wrong. In Hot Shots I felt like I was making the shots. Again, Its hard to explain but it just doesnt feel right in Tiger.

Putting is a miserable experience in my opinion. Once you are on the green they all look the same. Small and Flat. With the grid on you can see that the green does slope. Again in Hot Shots you can see the breaks even without the grid and the greens look a lot bigger.

The way you judge distance is very frustrating. Im sure part of it was me and I could get better but I 3 putted from 5 feet several times. Once again, even putts i made didnt have that i did it feel to them.

Went online to see the tournament feature. Sure enough the leader was in with a 45 or 46 i cant remember. At any rate a farce of a score for me. I dont want compete in tourneys with those kinds of scores even if i am shooting them.

If you are sitting on the fence about this game I really cant recommend it. Shots up to the green are really easy. Just pull back on the stick and push forward and down the middle you go. If you hit it in the rough it because you either hit to long or too short. I never hit one far left or right. On the green is really frustrating. Just not put together very well.

I have not learned all the shots so that could make the game better. Im just not sure that I even care to learn to put fades and draws on.

Re: Not Impressed with TW at all

You just have to accept this game for what it is..a FUN golf game. It is NOT a sim, but it's not 100% arcade either. There are things we can do to make it more difficult:

            1. Turn on Tour Play, this will make everything harder, more wind, no caddie tips, etc.

            2. Turn off or do not use power boost, let the timing of your swing determine how far your ball goes.

            3. I only use backspin and topspin. And once I commit to the spin direction I will not change it at the last second if I see I'm flying past the pin or coming up short.

There is so much to do in this game it will definately last me till Links 2004 comes out when I will probably trade this game in for it.

Oh, and the player creation is UNBELIEVABLE!!

If my game sucks at least I know I look like a pimp.

I played the PC version a while yesterday and I'm hooked! Working to get my way to the PGA tour. I've noticed that I don't hit many drives into the rough, but a lot of times my long irons won't end up near the hole and I'll have to hit some long putts to help myself out. I'm not having trouble with the computer so far, but I know that'll go away once I get past this beginning area

Well i don't think that on the course TW on the PC atleast is a good game.

Off the course with feature and everything I think it's quite poor. EA Sports loves to makes games where the gameplay isn't addicting it's trying to unlock new clothes, modes and frills. I hate this about sports games. Just like every other EA Sports games, the way they make you keep playing it is forcing you to keep unlocking stuff jsut to get to a realistic experience.

What if in Madden, the only way you could play a career mode is to start of with a team of nobodies replacing your favorite team, then you had to keep playing to unlock stuff just to make that team competative. To me that's not how sports games should work. But for the reaction on this board and other boards, it's fine with most of you.

I think you can play tournaments where you play as pro players, but I like the aspect where I start out kinda like in real life, where I'd have to work on my skills to get better. Unlocking stuff doesn't do anything for me overall, but it's a fun game. If you were uber Tiger from the start I think the game would get old fast. Then it'd just be trying to get a hole in one on a par 4 and stuff like that
