Re: New downloadable content for Links, with a $5 charge

Personally I think charging for it is fair, although I'd like to see something a bit less expensive. I think 2 courses for $5 would be fine. Unless they're including more depth to the career mode with the download. I know I'll end up getting it sooner or later, but I think I'm gonna go with Clay's suggestion and boycott it until they get their XSN problems fixed.

charging was bound to happen...the Links guy at the Xbox.com forum basically said that they have guys spending like 2 months to work on a course, it's a non trivial job to make the course, and they have to charge for content to make it even feasible to spend their time on it. They're not making their money back on the download with the 5 bucks per person, but business wise they had to.

This was bound to happen, look at other sports, they have people put out updated rosters, but that's a whole lot simpler than a new golf course. Usually they'd be working on next year's version rather than creating DLC.

I agree with Fetter though, 2 courses for 5 bucks would sit a lot better with me, and while I know I'll end up buying it, I'm waiting till the stupid XSN errors are fixed, those are really pissing me off over time

Re: New downloadable content for Links, with a $5 charge

5 bucks for one course seems too steep a price, and i understand its not cost effective to make it any cheaper.

But how many people will actually pay a good 30 bucks for another 5 or 6 courses?

I agree that will end up happening is that developers will give you much less and then sell you extra content.

example: they decide to give you 3 courses next year, and charge you for each update

Project gotham racing 3: give you 10 tracks, but you can pay for the rest, etc.

I don't like the precedent that this is setting.

If you don't want to pay the price for the extra courses.... You don't have to. I am going to pay the $5 to help extend the life out of a game I enjoy. It is simply $5 folks.

$5 gets you a hamburger, fries and a drink at most place
$5 rents you a couple movies
$5 does not even get you in to see a movie at most theaters
$5 buys me one and half cans of copenhagen

For me this $5 would be more bang for the buck then any of the above so I will pay.

When you payed the $49.99 you paid for what you got. There was never a gaurantee downloaded content would be free.

EDIT: And while I am on a bit of a rant it appears that you forget a foundation has to be layed to get all those courses to compare to Tiger Woods. You remeber how many courses were on the first Tiger Woods on the PS2? 3 courses.

Some of us paid for the foundation of all the courses that you tightwads got in your 10 pack discs for future versions of Links on the PC.

Anyone else remember paying $19.99 (I think that was the price) for an extra course back in the Links 386/Pro days? I know I did for most all of them, still have the 3.5 discs to show for it.

I agree that companies should be paid to make extra content in their games. I think $5 is over-priced for just one course though. I would feel different if there were 2-3 courses. It is going to be interesting to see if the majority of gamers out there will find this acceptable over time. My personal belief is that this will do more harm than good as I can see many companies restricting their content in hopes of making more money through add-ons. As time goes by, I am finding myself playing Xbox Live less and less. Not sure why I feel this way but needless to say it is happening.

I have to agree. If MS released a 6 course disk for $30 I would be pre-ordering. So $5 for one course is fine by me. I love the game and look forward to adding new courses.

I paid $5 for a pretty ****ty lunch today and I am going to crap that out in a few hours. The course will last me a hell ofa lot longer than that
